Spark Plugs

Hey everyone - Our 2009 T31 X-trail has just hit 104,000 klms

I do the service myself - and it needs a major service.

My question is when do I know its right to change the spark plugs?

The gap seems fine, the ends are all fine - although its a bit darker in colour and very little build up along the side of the ends.

Re: Spark Plugs

Matt,

As per your scheduled service, they should be replaced every 100k even if they look OK.

I have just replaced my spark plugs after 50k kms.

This will keep the exy running smoothly for years to come.

cheers,
Tom

Re: Spark Plugs

My 2001 X-trail 2.0 that was imported from Japan to New Zealand still had the original factory spark plugs at about 280,000km's last year when I had them changed, my fault, I always just went to an oil changing place that just did very basic services, I only changed them at around 280,000km's as I read on this forum about changing spark plugs (I have no mechanical brain at all), I had them changed to iridium spark plugs at that point. I had no problems at all with the original spark plugs and the car ran fine on them. After changing them nothing changed, the car never had an issue in the first place. The mechanic said he had a hell of a time removing the original spark plugs though, he had to channel his inner Rambo to undo them but he checked them out and they seemed fine to him, although he thought it was the right thing to do to change them and couldn't believe I went that long on the originals.
