If it's second hand there's oil already in there. The quantity of oil may be less if its a small converter. This may not be necessary, but we always did it. Then put the rest in the transmission. Maybe 5 litres to start with, and then continue checking and topping up the oil as required until it is at the correct level. If you put it in all at once it may overflow.
