posticon Changing CVT oil - Saving lots of money

I changed the CVT oil in my T31 Xtrail.
@ 78000 Kms . The CVT oil was replaced 3 times . The car was driven between the transmission oil changes so that it has new fluid all through the gearbox.
I used Penrite CVT V oil rated for NS -2
The car now has 105000 Kms . The transmission is running without any problems!!!!!!
Now driven 27000 Kms with no issues

The Penrite CVT V costs about $50 per 4 litres as compared with approximately $130 for 4 litres . An extra $80 per 4 litres .

From my reasearch for our Swift with a CVT, and the problems we experienced, just steer clear of Castrol Gold CVT fluid, and make sure you get the 'new' formulation of the Penrite.

Thanks for your post, Bazz. Would you happen to know which CVT trans you have? (Located on your build plate. As example, 'RE6F01A')

Cheers.

Re: Changing CVT oil - Saving lots of money

hello guys .... newbie X Trail owner, Brit expat living in Philippines .... I introduced myself a week or so ago ...presume I'm allowed to post now...

We just bought a 2011 T31 2.5 cvt and I'm anxious to change the cvt fluid as soon as poss. I too decided against buying Nissan NS-2 and opted for Amsoil Synthetic CVT fluid. I know Nissan make a big deal about only using NS-2 but the dealer here wanted around £60/ L !! ..needless to [sign in to see URL] didnt hang around.
[sign in to see URL]'ve now got my Amsoil and am ready to get the cvt drained n filled. I note a few vids on Youtube on the subject and it seems pumping the old fluid out via a cooler return is a preferred method ...is that the case?

Reason I ask ..[sign in to see URL] looked at my X Trail ...I cant find anything that looks like a 'cooler' at the front of the car ..aside of the obvious rad n condenser of course. I then read that its actually a water/fluid [sign in to see URL] an air/fluid cooler ...[sign in to see URL] that the case? Service manual seems to suggest that but I cant find the thing ...anyone know where it is? .... and is this 'return line pumping' something that XTrail cvt owners do?

sorry for the extensive first post guys .... I asked the same question over on the UK XTrail forum too ..but I think most UK T31's are diesel ..and therefore not CVT ... not sure how common cvt XTrails are in UK ... but you guys seem to have more experience of [sign in to see URL] I can get some goid advice about the cvt drain/flush/refill procedure here .....

ta fellas...

oh and great to hear someone else decided to use an alternative fluid and has had no issues at all since then.

UPDATE: ...just realised my X Trail doesnt have a cooler for the cvt! .... [sign in to see URL] 'pump out' option cant be done and I'm stuck with several drain n refills instead ...
