I've never had any dramas with Penrite products in the past nondisclosed_email@example.com (hrtpaul)Tue, 24 Dec 2019 16:23:01 +0000 Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097146,from=rss#post2097146https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097146,from=rss#post2097146I have been using Castrol 5W-30 Edge Full Synthetic Oil for many years now, but with the higher K's on my T31 I've switched to Penrite 10W-50 with no problems. On a recent trip to Supercheap I entered the details for my 2010 2.5 Petrol engine into their tablet and it recommended Castrol Edge 5W-30 as one of the oils to use. But reading further down on the tablet it says "Not recommended for vehicles fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters or Petrol Engines with Catalytic Converters". Is this line an error or is this why my Catalytic Converter failed prematurely?nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Tue, 17 Dec 2019 18:51:05 +0000 Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097141,from=rss#post2097141https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2097141,from=rss#post2097141After reading all I could find on the forum and this is the most recent oil thread at 18 months old, I thought I'd ask here. Is Castrol Edge Synthetic Engine Oil 10W-30 still the oil of choice for the 2.5L T31 and has anyone tried Penrite Full Synthetic Engine Oil 10W-40? I run Penrite in both my VN SS and LS1 VX Calais with no issues for years. Any other suggestions on what is a good oil to use would be appreciated. Thanks guys and girls nondisclosed_email@example.com (hrtpaul)Mon, 16 Dec 2019 21:02:53 +0000 Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095596,from=rss#post2095596https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095596,from=rss#post2095596Hi all, I started using the nulon 5w30 about 20k ago (car has 160k) This oil is listed as one of the recommended oils for the exy if you shuffle through the oil computer at supercheap. The first time i did my oil change after approx 7k i was surprised to see the oil was still reasonably clean. I use to use the Castrol GTX 10w40 which is semi synthetic, i noticed that this oil became black a lot quicker than the fully synthetic nulon. I usually pay 45 to 55 bucks a 6l bottle so the prices mentioned are definitely a bargain buy . cheers, Tomnondisclosed_email@example.com (Tomkazz)Fri, 20 Apr 2018 19:55:03 +0000 Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095595,from=rss#post2095595https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095595,from=rss#post2095595Post in the engine rebuild thread where our member got advice from an engine rebuilder about engine oil additives... http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t129248,offset=9 ...especially note in the 4th paragraph where he writes "He mentioned that everything had a yellow tinge under the microscope and that an engine additive (you know the ones!!) has been used (guilty emoticon !!) and has built up a crappy layer of bearing hating sludge which ruined everything over time.. The advice was to never use that s***!!!."nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Thu, 19 Apr 2018 15:24:59 +0000 Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095588,from=rss#post2095588https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095588,from=rss#post2095588I just realised, I DID get a bargain at Supercheap. My container is 6L, not 5L! Usually retails for $64.99, so $29.99 is more than 50% off. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Nulon-Full-Synthetic-Long-Life-Engine-Oil-5W-30-6-Litre/343508 nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Wed, 18 Apr 2018 09:03:57 +0000 Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095586,from=rss#post2095586https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095586,from=rss#post2095586I might just stay away from from it and go with what the service people have used. It's all to complicated for me. This is what the Nulon web site says about Moly DTC... "Moly DTC Engine Treatment. Nulon Moly DTC Engine Treatment is proven to dramatically reduce the friction of contacting metal surfaces within any engine. ... Reducing internal engine friction reduces metal wear, heat and allows the engine to run more efficiently giving you more power and better fuel economy." As you stated......could be just a marketing ploy.. cheers again ps....Wiz Au, I just noticed that your last reply had a link to the above statement of what Moly DTC is used for. The 'normal' price is $39.99 compared to the one supplied by all the auto parts stores, which is $59.99. The Moly DTC on the label is listed as an additional additive. A gold plastic container and a silver plastic container. The catalogue also shows a gold container and a silver container for 10W-40. So I guess one would need to read the fine print on the container before making a decision to purchase same. So $27.99 at Costco is awesome considering RRP IS $59.99. Be aware there are two types of 5w-30 Nulon synth. Red and Green logo. One you cant use in diesel with DPF I think? Sorry I cant recall which one.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Tue, 17 Apr 2018 09:42:29 +0000 NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095561,from=rss#post2095561https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095561,from=rss#post2095561Cheers all.
