NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30

Cheers all.

Has anyone used Nulon Fully Synthetic engine oil in their Exy.
COSCO currently has a special on 5 Litres of 5W-30 for $[sign in to see URL].
Sounds like a fair price but not aware of the brand etc.

Have a great day.

Bugger, I just paid $[sign in to see URL] at supercheap on 50% off sale. So $[sign in to see URL] at Costco is awesome considering RRP IS $[sign in to see URL].

Be aware there are two types of 5w-30 Nulon synth. Red and Green logo. One you cant use in diesel with DPF I think? Sorry I cant recall which one.

Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30

The COSTCO online catalogue shows two containers for 5W-30. A gold plastic container and a silver plastic container. The catalogue also shows a gold container and a silver container for 10W-40.
So I guess one would need to read the fine print on the container before making a decision to purchase same.

The "special" is valid from 16 - 29 April.

cheers again.

It's different stuff than what I'm used to.

Red:

Green 'Euro':

Costco ']'Protect''...it's got Moly DTC in it??':

Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30

A bit of research shows that while listed on the Nulon website, no reputable parts supplier sells Nulon 'Protect', only eBay, Gumtree, GraysOnline, 'auswarehouse', & Costco. The 'normal' price is $[sign in to see URL] compared to the one supplied by all the auto parts stores, which is $[sign in to see URL].

The Moly DTC on the label is listed as an additional ]additive.

Could just all be marketing.....

Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30

I might just stay away from from it and go with what the service people have used.
It's all to complicated for me.

This is what the Nulon web site says about Moly DTC...

"Moly DTC Engine Treatment. Nulon Moly DTC Engine Treatment is proven to dramatically reduce the friction of contacting metal surfaces within any engine. ... Reducing internal engine friction reduces metal wear, heat and allows the engine to run more efficiently giving you more power and better fuel economy."

As you [sign in to see URL] be just a marketing ploy..

cheers again

[sign in to see URL] Au, I just noticed that your last reply had a link to the above statement of what Moly DTC is used for. Duh

I just realised, I DID get a bargain at Supercheap. My container is 6L, not 5L! Usually retails for $[sign in to see URL], so $[sign in to see URL] is more than 50% off.

Post in the engine rebuild thread where our member got advice from an engine rebuilder about engine oil additives...

...especially note in the 4th paragraph where he writes
"He mentioned that everything had a yellow tinge under the microscope and that an engine additive (you know the ones!!) has been used (guilty emoticon !!) and has built up a crappy layer of bearing hating sludge which ruined everything over time.. The advice was to never use that s***!!!."

Re: NULON Fully Synthetic 5W-30

Hi all,

I started using the nulon 5w30 about 20k ago (car has 160k)

This oil is listed as one of the recommended oils for the exy if you shuffle through the oil computer at supercheap.

The first time i did my oil change after approx 7k i was surprised to see the oil was still reasonably clean.

I use to use the Castrol GTX 10w40 which is semi synthetic, i noticed that this oil became black a lot quicker than the fully synthetic nulon.

I usually pay 45 to 55 bucks a 6l bottle so the prices mentioned are definitely a bargain buy emoticon .

cheers,
Tom
