Re: Auxilary 2nd fuel filter fitment to a 2009 M9R t31 xtrail

Whip (allan),

My Ryco has a glass water trap on the bottom, I am trying to use flickr app and loading
in my Kubuntu [sign in to see URL] O/S, but until I get it operational, can you please go outside the forum and send an email direct, that way I can attach a pic?

Re: Auxilary 2nd fuel filter fitment to a 2009 M9R t31 xtrail

Ok Ray,

Hadn't seen one like this before, but according to the information sheet should only be a matter of blocking 1 inlet and 1 outlet. No idea if it matters which one, but that's something you'll need to work out.

So as previously mentioned:

Remove fuel line (that is the line attached to the inlet on the factory filter) from the factory filter and attach to the inlet on the Ryco filter, minus the primer pump (Depending on where the Ryco is fitted this may or may not require new hose);
Attach the hose from the outlet on the Ryco filter to the inlet on the factory filter, with the primer pump in line similar to how the factory filter had been (Again this may or may not require new hose)
Re-attach the outlet hose to the factory filter.

Depending on where you mount the Ryco filter you will probably need to use additional hose. We had to use a new piece of hose from the Donaldson filter outlet to the factory inlet, into which the primer pump was placed. When we were doing the work we found that the connecting clip for the inlet on the standard filter was broken so my mate knocked up another connection for it.

I'll try and get a decent photo of the top of my standard filter for you to give you an idea of what I mean, but I'm not sure how to make the instructions any clearer for you other than you discussing with a mechanic, which I am not.

Allan

Re: Auxilary 2nd fuel filter fitment to a 2009 M9R t31 xtrail

Ray,

You've mounted your ryco in the same spot I mounted my Donaldson, so materials required should be similar.

Looking at the factory filter you'll see the primer pump. That is your fuel line going to the in let on the factory filter. To the bottom right is the outlet on tbe factory filter.

Detach the fuel line from the inlet on the factory filter, remove the primer pump & clip connector & then conbect the fuel line to the inlet on the Ryco.
Get a length of fuel line & attach to the outlet on the ryco filter then attach the primer pump & clip connector to the hose & reconnect to the inlet on the original filter.
If you haven't removed the original filter then you won't have to disconnect the outlet on the factory filter, but if you have then reconnect this.

Voila should be done & ready to prime up.

I'd suggest you also change the factory filter while doing this & that will probably be the trickiest part. My mechanic mate finds this quite frustrating, but now the Donaldson filter is in he's actually looking forward to not having to touch the factory filter as often.

Hopefully this helps, but if you're still not sure I'd suggest you take it to someone who can either show you or do it for you. I can't really explain any better.

Good luck.
