posticon Cargo area light and tail hatch door switch

Hi,

My T31 hatch (tail) door works fine except for the switch. On opening the door the driver console doesn't register it - no alert light, and the cargo lamp only turns on if set to the (always) on position.

If I have just unlocked the car with the remote, and then open the tail up a little while later the car locks automatically as if I haven't opened it.

I am guessing there is an issue in the latch switch. Nothing obvious to be seen - is there a DIY fix or is this a mechanic job?

Any suggestions are most welcome, thanks in advance.

Jon

Re:

The "door switch" is located within the actual door lock - so it sounds like yours may be faulty and a new lock is required.

I have done mine (Same issue) and it toot about 15-20 mins all up.
Only simple tools needed
- 10mm socket / ring spanner
Phillips head screwdriver
trim removal tool (or flat blade screwdriver)

Once you remove the rear tailgate trim, you can easily locate the bolts holding the switch in and remove them - disconnect the cable (from handle) and the wires from the central locking...

Re: Cargo area light and tail hatch door switch

Thanks for the reply.

I pulled it out, pretty simple once the trim was away. On the T31 there is no cable to the handle, so there is just a single electrical connector.

There is no dirt in the connector, and re-seating hasn't helped so I guess I should try a new lock unit. Amayama has a replacement so I'll give it a go.

Thanks again

Re: Cargo area light and tail hatch door switch

Update. The replacement tailgate latch (lock lift) did not fix the problem, so I had an auto electrician inspect it.

With the tailgate up, he pulled out the rubber pipes at the top corners. The left one had loom wires going through it, unprotected inside the concertina pipe. One wire had simply broken.

Problem solved. But why would they provide a protective conduit inside the car body and door, but not for the rubber pipe section joining the 2? Mystery to me.

Anyway I'm off to sell a 90502-EN00A lock lift in unused condition. Hopefully get half back online.
