Need help/advice finding a gremlin

Hi All, new to the forum.
So i bought my t30 2.5 from a guy in VIC, he just spent $4500 on a replacement engine (170000km), new clutch and new radiator fitted by a mechanic, he was going back to NZ and the car had some other issues so he couldn't be bothered getting a roady, said it needed a new front DS wheel bearing (mechanic had forgotten to do it up properly) and new LH guard as it was cracked ($120 from wrecker here in sa).

So basically a good clean, tire rotation and some things like heater control knobs (pintara was the same/similar), a new LH indicator and she is mint!!!

Anyway 100s of KMs of driving problem free and now it has developed this unusual 'jolting' or 'jerking' at high revs or when climbing a hill like the Adelaide freeway, it gets worse as it gets warmer but doesn't do it under load like low rev high load in 4th or similar, always around 2500-3500 rpm or sometimes lower when going up hills.
Now i can drive all day without it doing it if i don't give it some beans or go up a hill, and it never ever throws an engine check light.

Ive popped a scan tool on it and that shows no codes (but works as we unplugged the MAF and it threw a code straight away)

Seems to do it less on running 98 and when cold.

So far I've:
Cleaned the MAF sensor
Put in new fuel filter
replaced the fuel pump and pressure regulator
New plugs (with correct gapping)
Spike cleaned the injectors
checked and re-sprung the coil packs
changed the O2 sensor in the exh manifold
serviced the car regularly.

Its killing me, Its not a single cylinder misfire its more a severe jolt like all cylinders misfiring or a fuel shortage for a split second, if you give it more it starts bucking like a bronco and popping, almost like a timing issue, but like i said i can then back off and shell behave all day again for me if nanna driving.

Things left i can think of:
possible coil pack (tho as i said its not one it must be all of them at once which would be weird)
a volt drop to fuel pump??
or some sort of electrical issue like a short somewhere which is weird
cam or crank angle sensors BUT id think they'd throw an engine check light??

Pls help, its killing me now, esp as I've started on a new site in the hills and can't drive it now.

TIA

So long story short it was the cam pos sensor, removed, wiped clean, tapped it on a hard surface, started the car without it and it ran fine......... no check engine light, then tried again and no start, still no light, put it back in unplugged, tried to start - no start BUT check engine light comes on......plug it in, starts, still engine check light up and now running perfectly, took it for a thrash and hill run - perfect. All this after months of trying to figure it out. Will be ordering a new one now, replace and clear the code. Weird.

You're not wrong there. I was heading towards a fuel filter/pump as it appeared to be related to high revs / high load = @ high fuel consumption times and the 'bucking' was starving for fuel.

So basically when it got to a certain RPM value, the Cam Position Sensor got to a point where it couldn't tell the RPM of the engine to the ECU and feed the right amount of fuel in? But dropping the revs, the Cam Position Sensor started sending clean information to the ECU again and everything went normally?

Seems like it should have thrown an "unexpected value" code, if this ECU has such a thing?

Re: Need help/advice finding a gremlin

So everything is fine still, 300+ kms of highway driving to and from site giving it full noise and 110km ph for prolonged periods, ordered 2 new sensors just incase ($18.95 delivered for 2), don't trust this one now but will keep it as a spare.
Now to add to the confusion this arvo the engine check light cleared itself.......got in it to go home and BAM it was gone, was there this morning.

Anyway its gone, the lights gone and i know the cause and i still think its weird haha
