Re: Headlights - Clearance lights and headlights?
A long time ago, when Nissan was still called Datsun, they made cars with four forward facing lights. The Datsun 1600, 180B and 200B all jump top mind.
The outer two lights functioned as both low and high beams, and the inner two were simply driving lights (which lit-up with the high beams).
Nowadays, Nissan still employ the four headlight concept in our X-trails, albeit with a more modern, stylised look.
When you turn on your headlights, you'll note that only the outer two (larger) lights come on. Flick your stalk to high beam and all four illuminate.
It's that simple. Two high/low and two driving lights mounted in one, clean-look it.
"Clearance lights" noted in the owner's Manual refers to what we Aussies call "parkers" or "parking lights".

Re:
The inner lights closer to the grille are the Hi Beam, the outer ones are the Low Beam running lights. The Clearance lights/Parkers are at the top of the headlight and they contain 2 push-in bulbs. You won't be able to buy a single bulb for Hi/Low Beam operation because they're separate. Hope this clears it up

Re: Headlights - Clearance lights and headlights?
If you look in your user manual you should see a bulb type for the low beam and high beam like H1, H11, H4, etc. Look for this designation on the bulbs you purchase and you will know they will fit.

Re:
Yeah, that's correct for the older T30 models only which used a single bulb for both Hi and Low beam.
