After email correspondence from ebay, Paypal and the supplier etc I receive an email stating estimated delivery not until 18-19 June so I wrapped the damaged boot (on the vehicle) with plastic, tape and cable ties to prevent more grease escaping while local driving and waiting for new boot delivery. On Tuesday I was advised of an unexpected family event this weekend so I am off to to the Bathurst area today for a few days. I did not want to risk my temporary plastic cv boot repair coming apart and allowing dirt into the joint or more grease being lost so I bit the bullet and had a local mechanic fit a new boot (driver's side inner boot) yesterday for $90.00. I will now have a spare inner boot for the passenger side which no doubt will eventually need replacing as well. All checks etc indicate that the inner cv boots are the same each side. cheers all. nondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Fri, 15 Jun 2018 08:17:53 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095782,from=rss#post2095782https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095782,from=rss#post2095782Hi Dave. It's not a big job. The boot needs to be changed asap so dirt doesn't get in and grind the rollers in there. I'll PM you.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Sun, 10 Jun 2018 16:03:11 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095781,from=rss#post2095781https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2095781,from=rss#post2095781Hi Eric. When replacing my front bash plate this morning I noticed my RHS inner boot was leaking (grease over the oil filter etc). The boot is now loose around the shaft because it is broken away. I have noted your part no's for inner and outer RHS boots so will check out on ebay. Are they easy to replace. I need to have it done before my trip out to Uluru etc in September. cheers ps. I have just ordered RHS inner boot (Fits NISSAN X-TRAIL T31 2007-2013 - Boot Inner Cv Joint Kit 84X85X26.5) off ebay.......$14.95 + $9.45 postage. nondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Sun, 10 Jun 2018 11:26:20 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093715,from=rss#post2093715https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093715,from=rss#post2093715They do. The inner required more than is supplied so I used castrol cv joint grease. The boots I bought are identical to the original ones, at $24 for the outer and $14 for the inner. I'll finish the installation tomorrow and then I'll put the part numbers up, but at that price its worthwhile keeping a couple on the shelf. Edit. I've finished replacing the cv boots and all went well. The part numbers for the Front RHS cv shaft boots are, Available on ebay- Febest Inner Boot 0115-GSX30RHT 84x85x26.5 , Febest Outer Boot 0217P-J1020 84.5x108x28.3.            I bought the Inner Boot from Autopro who source the parts from A&F Driveshafts P/N BT-974.              I used nail pliers to squeeze the boot clamps tight. I'm not sure if these fit the LHS, but you can measure the diameter of the cv joint housings and compare them to the dimensions above. These boots should fit models 2007- 2013 according to the Febest site.. nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Thu, 04 May 2017 20:06:18 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093712,from=rss#post2093712https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093712,from=rss#post2093712I thought the boots usually come with a pack of greasenondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Thu, 04 May 2017 10:58:37 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093704,from=rss#post2093704https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093704,from=rss#post2093704No worries Kev. Apparently the old grease is like liquid due to the heat that is radiated from the engine over the years. CV joint grease is used in the roller assembly. You half fill the roller housing with the grease and then reinstall the rollers, shaft and boot. Grease mixed with oil is not to be used as it will perish the rubber boot.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Tue, 02 May 2017 18:00:12 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093702,from=rss#post2093702https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093702,from=rss#post2093702Sorry Eric, I don't. The inners I bought look identical to the old one, and I'll check the outers when I get them. The lubricant that came out of the inner CV/ Roller assembly is more like a very thick grey oil, almost like oil and cv grease mixed together, although it doesn't smell of diff oil. Do you know what lubricant is used?nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Mon, 01 May 2017 10:06:44 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093700,from=rss#post2093700https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093700,from=rss#post2093700Just be careful Eric that they are not "universal" type boots. The universal ones are way too oversized and rub excessively in the flutes which causes premature wear and splitting. I know from experience as I had some aftermarket driveshafts fitted with universal boots and had them back in for warranty replacement after 11 months. Since then I have fitted genuine driveshafts from Amayama without problems in 2 years.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Sun, 30 Apr 2017 22:53:49 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093697,from=rss#post2093697https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093697,from=rss#post2093697Thanks Kev. I think I've found the right parts, but I'm waiting on the outer boots to arrive mid week. Initially the inners weren't available aftermarket and the outers were. When I went to pick up the outer boot from different parts stores, the large diameter end was much bigger than mine, possibly for the diesel, and there was no listing for the boot size I needed and the inners were available. So I've bought two inners and I'm waiting on the outers. Once its all back together, I'll write up the boot part numbers and brands to suit the front right CV shaft to suit a STL 2010 CVT.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Sun, 30 Apr 2017 18:34:53 +0000 Re: T 31 CV Joint Boots.https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093694,from=rss#post2093694https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093694,from=rss#post2093694Go through the Amayama find parts list. I put the number thats on the boot which is NTN 456-95 in their search and nothing shows up on their list. My inner boot has just split so I'll be changing both. But I'm having trouble finding the inner one as it is different as you can see in the lower 1st photo. The genuine price is $252 just for the inner and the outer is $108. The CV's have done 125,000k's, but are fine so I'm just replacing the boots. The inner is made of rubber and the outer is plastic. Any help appreciated, Thanks. nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Sat, 29 Apr 2017 15:58:03 +0000
