unlisted sensor on the dashboard

Hi,
There is a small 90mm by 70mm panel on the dashboard, directly in font of the driver. It appears to have a photosensor mounted on it.
The only thing I've read that it could possibly be, is the rain sensor.
If it is, I don't see how it works, because it never gets wet.
There's no mention of it in the owners' manual, nor is it mentioned in the CD I bought for servicing.

If it's not the rain sensor, what is it?

Re:

What model X-Trail ??
If it is a T30 or T30II - are you sure it's not the Security LED for the Alarm to confirm it is armed..

Lock your car with the remote and look for the red LED flashing on the top of the dashboard

We would need your xtrail year and model before we can answer your question mate, so that is why it's a good idea to add this information into your signature emoticon

Re: Re:

Sorry 'bout that.
It's an 08 Auto 2.5L, CVT- ST-L.
I stopped in a Nissan Sales yard and asked.
They said it was a feature for something that's not installed in my Exxie - adjustable headlights. It's to sense day-time, night time conditions.
I'm still not convinced - why do I have a wired up sensor, but not the adjustable headlights?
cheers - Graham

Re:

That would be right because this feature is only available on the luxury models (TL and Ti).
