posticon T31 diesel auto limitations

It's probably been done to death and for the life of me, I cannot find where I read on this forum, the reasons for the 6spd auto having a substantially lower power output than the manual diesel variant!?

Is it to do with a weak auto trans or lack of cooling capability?

Re: T31 diesel auto limitations

It is to do with the transmission cooling.
Instead of running the oil out to the radiator where an external cooler can be fitted, they pipe the radiator water to the transmission. This does not seem to be as efficient so less cooling.

Seems to be a well thought over piece of engineering don't you think!?
Haha
So I guess there is no possibility of externally cooling these bad boys ay... good work you engineers you!

Read through the last page of this thread Bro.
Seems there might be a way to connect an external cooler if you can find out more information about the mysterious plug bolts referred to by Ahto

Check the small vacuum lines. From turbo to the solenoid and from the vacuum tump. Next to the battery is a plastic T-connection. It may get fragile over the years.

What is your MAP/boost sensor reading? I have 2,55kpa on full throttle.

Re: T31 diesel auto limitations

So does the Petrol get the same 6sp auto gearbox (I know there is a CVT, but is there a 6spd?) Because does that mean the Diesel is more "powerful" than the Petrol?? Makes me think about the whole "N/m torque vs HP/Kw" and how the temperature of the AT is affected. If the 6spd auto transmission is the same, then it must not like low rev / high torque because the Petrol would have much higher HP/Kw at revs, which is what I think would heat up an auto?

Is it a Jatco? Any one know the "JFxxx" number, I can do some research.
