Accessory system not available at ACC

Hi,

When I turn the key to ACC position (position 2 in manual) I don't have power to radio, power windows,... Ik have to put it in ON position. But then the ignition system (I think) is also active (check lights on dashboard light up).

Btw, what does the 'ignition system' entail?

Hi Menno,

Check fuse J (30A) and H (80A) and your accessories relay but it sounds like the accessories position in your ignition keyswitch might be faulty.

Will check that.

However, what is 'accessory' actually? Because I noticed my radio does turn on on ACC. But power windows do not, but yesterday I read a thread on this forum that indeed power windows only work on ON position... So maybe nothing is faulty..

Re: Accessory system not available at ACC

ACC is for cigarette lighter, power mirrors, power sockets in driver's box and in rear boot and the cd/radio.
Unfortunately yes the power windows and sunroof work only off IGN but I have made a power relay extender which plugs into the existing power relay socket to give a couple of minutes after turnoff to close all the windows. You can find details in this thread

Re:

ok thanks, then it's working as it should... I've seen thread about the timer relay but for me it's not the issue just after engine shutdown. I regularly want to put windows up and down without starting the car since I'm also living / sleeping in it. Anyway np.

Is there a problem with having the key in ON position (ignition system powered) for prolonged periods of time?

Re: Accessory system not available at ACC

It used to be said in older cars that it burnt out the high-tension coils but in modern cars with electronic ignitions I think it is more of just the extra loading of all the sensors, ECU and other electronic control systems draining the battery very quickly.
