My wander around to WA in 2016 - [warning contains many photos with the larger thumbnails]
In 2016 between July to October, I went for a drive few weeks, (turned out to be about 11.5 weeks on the road). The only aim I had for the entire time was to visit the Kimberly region and drive the Gibb River Road.
I managed to get a bit further than that, with no real plan in sight other than being home around the 10th of October.
I'll be listing these in location-time order as it will take a very long time to write why I stopped t some places and not others. Mostly I did the entire drive as an aimless wander with the only purpose of seeing the country in the far west. Not as much of it as I could do in such a short time, but more of a 'hmm whats up this way' type of wander. Talking to the people who live and also wander through there was part of the highlight as well, but I rarely take photos of people and post them.
I drove as much of the WA coastline as I could, where I could.
This was a very relaxing way to see the country, and I will be going back over that way in a few years to have a bit more of a look at the southern end and central areas. To see the places and things that I wanted to see and but didn't feel well enough to stop and enjoy. (I got very sick after leaving Fremantle, and didn’t come good until Walpole)
The hardest part of writing a post for such a long holiday; is what photos to pick… Some locations listed were wonderful stops but it is too difficult to pick 1 photo that describes it best.

Ceduna. Here is where I noticed that in the past hour since I stopped for fuel, the wind had ripped off one of my 2 solar panels. At this time I decided that I had enough of living in the car and decided to go home. Three nights later I was in Brisbane with the car booked in for service the following day. I basically did a bee line for Brisbane dodging all the flood water that was hanging around western NSW. Via Minnipa (overnight stop), Port Augusta, Broken Hill (overnight stop), Cobar (turned north), Bourke (turned east again), Walgett (overnight stop), Moree, Goondiwindi, Warwick & finally Brisbane.

Pretty much every day, except the day I was driving into Walgett, I was stopped and parked between 3pm and 5pm. Walgett I got in about 6pm covered in bugs. And driving into Brisbane at 7pm, also covered in bugs.
I have managed to see most of the old Telegraph line up the centre of Australia, across the South and the Western Coasts now.
Whenever there is an old telegraph station marked, go look for the jetty that should be nearby. As the jetty, was once the only way for getting in and out of these places reliably for goods and mail services.

Hello Scarey, seems like a very enjoyable trip. Also confirms how good and reliable xtrail is. We have done more or less same things as you, except Mitchell river NP in Kimberley's. Difficult to predict the road conditions now, but how was it for you and exy in 2016. Not much worse than the rest of Gibb river rd? We also have 2012 exy, no mods and no special equipment, maybe it was a vintage year!
