Unfamiliar noise coming from the roof due to likely tensional strain of vehicle body

Hi All,
I am new to this forum and need some advice regarding an issue with my Nissan X-trail which I came across a few days ago. The issue seems to be related to tensional strain of the vehicle's body when going across uneven ground or rough road surfaces.
To provide you with some background of my vehicle I have a 2013 Nissan X-Trail ST 4x4 Limited Edition which I bought brand new. The vehicle has travelled less than 50000 km never left the bitumen road. Until now I have never had any issues with the vehicle, but two days ago I noticed an unfamiliar sound emanating somewhere from the roof. If I had to describe the noise I would say it sound like a low tone popping noise caused by tensional strain of the vehicle body. And it seems to be coming from the roof, mainly towards the back of the vehicle near the tail gate. I have noticed this issue first when driving across rough bitumen road along the South Coast (ie. Narooma) and the sloping ground of the camp site we are currently holidaying at.
I will further investigate the issue and also contact my local Nissan dealership, but in the meantime I would appreciate any advice regarding the issue, or be happy to hear from other peoples' experience and how they rectified the issue. Any feedback on likely sources for the noise would be very helpful to narrow the problem down.
I am certainly a bit worried and also concerned to hear that kind of noise coming from a vehicle which is 3 years old and has always been regularly serviced.
Thank you all in advance for your help and I will certainly keep you posted regarding the issue.
Cheers,
MacBurton
