Re: T30 rear shocks...different engines?
Are you sure you are not seeing 2 different part numbers for left and right struts as they will be different due to the spring seat handing.
What makes you think it is the strut making the noise in the rear ?
It could also be the parallel or trailing link arm bushes or the sway bar bushes or links.

Re: T30 rear shocks...different engines?
Hi RevKev
I'm new to replacing/repairing suspension parts on my Exe, so I had a local mechanic look at it, and he said it was the shock/strut assembly. He also showed me where a bunch of fluid had leaked out...can you tell me more about that? I thought the shocks were gas charged. The liquid is coming from the lower shock mount, and draining right down across the wheel hub.
The noise started a few KM after I had a sidewalk shop patch a leaky tire...he jacked up the car from the frame to remove the wheel, and I think he somehow hyperextended the shock and broke some seal. The roads here are brutal, so they were getting pretty beat anyway. I had a set of factory replacements in my shed, but I got robbed this past summer...that's another story.
I don't think the mechanic will get new parts here in Burkina, but probably take something off a wrecked car. I'd rather put on OEM or equivalent, and have a friend in Sydney who will bring them back if I order them and have them delivered to him. So I'm searching online, but on many online sites, when I put in my car info they ask for the engine type and give different part numbers for the shock assembly. That just seemed strange to me, but before I order from some shop that DOESN'T specify what engine type, I wanted to be sure there was no issue.
I'm also curious if I can drive for the next 5 weeks until my friend gets here.

Re: T30 rear shocks...different engines?
Jacking the Xtrail up by the frame to change a tyre won't harm the strut as it will bottom out when you are going off-road and a wheel lifts up in the air when the opposite corner goes into a hole. I've done it many times without damage to the struts.
The struts could be gas charged but they still have hydraulic fluid in them.
Make sure also that the fluid is not from a faulty hydraulic coupling for the brake caliper where it clips onto the strut.

Re: T30 rear shocks
The T30 does not have only a shock absorber. It is a strut assembly which includes the bottom spring plate as an integral welded component.
Being a 2007 model there is no real need to replace the springs unless you want some extra height in which case they will not be original and you will have to purchase them separately or as a combination strut+spring from a specialist supplier and do both sides together.
