No Spark

Hi, I have just replaced the head gasket on my T30 X trail - fun and games- and now it won't go. I get one spark on number 4 cylinder every time I crank it over and that's it. My question, if anyone knows the answer, is if the the timing chain is out ( and I don't think it is ) would the spark plugs still spark. In other words would the cam shaft position sensor and the crank position sensor cancel each other out and not tell the ECU, (or what ever controls the electrics) to generate a spark.
I've given up and given it over to the auto-electrician, who believes there should be a spark, but is not certain, and can not figure out why it doesn't go. So while my cars locked up in his shed, and he's gone off on a short surfing trip interstate, I'm trying to get my head around it.
I don't want to have to take the cover off the timing chain again unless I have to and I don't want to waste money on the auto-electrician if he is chasing something he can't fix.
This subject was touched on in another post by someone with the same symptoms and it was suggested a stretched timing chain was the cause, though no outcome was posted. Yet the question remains - should there be a spark anyway? Anyone?

Re: No Spark

To answer my own question I took the timing cover off and got the marks I'd put on the chain and the sprocket wheel to line up after rotating the engine manually about 30 times. Except that one cam was out by a sprocket. The marks I put on were not very accurate, and I probably wouldn't use white-out again. But I fixed it after nearly losing the tensioner piston into the guts of the engine. Anyway it goes and the answer is yes you can lose spark if the cam isn't completely in sync with the crank.
