Re: X-Trail Speakers power output max? Hi Jack,
Good question and I am more than happy to assist.
I have been playing with car audio for over 5 years now and have learnt a lot more than I ever expected to.
I am however curious as to what sort of stereo/amp setup you are running to blow the rear speaker?
Apologies if I start to get nerdy
The stock speakers from the Exy are rated 30W RMS each channel. The stock radio outputs approx 17W RMS each channel.
If you do decide to install all four new speakers, be prepared to do some plug changes as well. All factory speakers come with their own socket design which in most cases is cut off and replaced by wire connectors, that said, I have found a way to modify the factory speakers (utilizing the outer spacer) and maintain the stock connection.
My main question would be, how serious a sound are you trying to achieve?
Let me know what you want to do and I'll guide you from there.
Cheers,
Tom

Very Modified.............
I only purchased the vehicle about a month ago and the rear speaker was already blown.
At first I thought it was a lose screw as I had taken the door trip off the front passenger side door and the vibration there was the culprit. However on isolating the speaker (through fade and balance) the speaker sounded shocking.
Sound-wise I'm not an audiophile. I'd be happiest with the easiest and most inexpensive option.
I'm practical and not afraid of swapping around plugs.
Thanks again for the guidance, really appreciate it mate.

Re: X-Trail Speakers power output max? Jack,
Happy to help.
The speakers you pointed out before will be more than enough to get you through the daily drive. You will notice an average change in sound, but it will be clearer and slightly more bassier.
The way I would go about this, is to cut out he original speakers from their mounts and mount the new speakers in their place. This is the way I was able to retain the factory plug. Soldering is required to achieve this.
Unfortunately one day I decided to install a 4 channel amp @100w RMS per channel and decided to run all new wiring too.
Still managed to use the original speaker (spacer) to gain the extra space needed for the large magnets.
I will remove one of my door panels in the morning (when the sun comes up) and take some pics, and create a walk through for you to follow easily.
If you are in Adelaide, i'm happy to meet up and help out if need be.
cheers,
Tom

Originally I was just going to replace with original speakers but all the wreckers I called said they don't have any, and I imagine they would cost an arm and leg new..
When I enquired about the speakers on ebay, he did ask whether they were for front and back, I'm assuming they're all same size??
Appreciate the offer but I'm next door to you in Victoria (Melbourne).

Re: X-Trail Speakers power output max? Jack,
All Good.
When I inquired at my local wrecker they quoted me $80 a speaker second hand..........WHAT
I picked up 2 sets of kicker speakers (100W RMS) from JB HIFI for $100 set.... now that's a bargain.
All 4 of the original speakers are the same size, they just have different locating pins and the audio input cable is in a certain area. they still fit a 6.5 speaker just fine.
Not sure why they asked you about front or rear? The speakers I saw (JVC) wouldn't make a difference if fronts or rears.
The cutting out is relatively easy. First you need to separate the foam surround from the plastic it is glued to. Then I used a hack saw blade (out of the saw) and just put some gloves on not to cut myself, and cut out the 4 arms holding the speaker to the shell.
When I post the photos in the morning, all will be explained.
The total time it would take is approx 2 hours.
Cheers,
Tom

So the yellow circles are where the original 'spokes' connecting the speaker to the frame would have been, is that correct?
For the bolts (red circles), were the holes already there and was any drilling required?
You did a really good job, this is going to be pushing my DIY expertise!
Cheers
Jack
P.s I have been advised by the seller that he is not sure whether front speakers and rear speakers are same size, did you get the same size for all your speakers?
