TJM IBS system

Hey guys looking for opinions I just brought a tjm ibs battery management system for my T30 I want to add well not want to but have to add the second battery to the boot as there's no room under the hood. Anyways I spoke to tjm and they said I'd need cable the size of my thumb so I don't lose voltage drop. Just wondering what cable is best to use and if anyone else has the tjm ibs system installed.

Re: TJM IBS system

Mitch,
I used twin 6B&S cable from engine bay to cargo area for my dual battery system.
It was the most common recommended size I found when googling for dual battery installation guidelines.

You can refer to following link for specs etc.

cheers

Re: TJM IBS system

Mitch,
I purchased 8 meters of twin 6B&S with Anderson plugs each end on ebay back in 2014.
8 metres was ample and I cut about 1.5 meters off. I then purchased additional Anderson plugs to terminate the cable. If you go to ebay and type 6B&S cable in the search field you will find many options with respect to length/price etc. Anderson plugs are easily sourced if you just buy non terminated cable. I had a heavy duty crimper so attaching the Anderson plug lugs to the cable was pretty simple.

below is a pic of the 14.22 volts at the plug in the cargo area. Plenty of voltage.

If you go to page 15 of the post headed Dual Batteries in this thread you will find my write up of the installation.

Hope this helps

Re: TJM IBS system

Dave and Mitch,
To correctly measure the voltage drop of the cable you need to do it under load when charging the battery. The multimeter alone draws so few milliamps that even figure-8 cable will show 14V for that length but obviously not good enough for battery charging emoticon

Re: TJM IBS system

To clarify.
I use the rear Anderson Plug to connect to my ArkPak which has a 7 stage 6 amp charger built in. The ArkPak houses a 130AH Deep Cycle AGM battery.
On a trip to Camerons Corner last year over 7 days the Waeco fridge full of goodies was connected to one of the 121V output sockets on the ArkPak.
The display on the ArkPak continually showed that the AGM battery was fully 100% charged after the daily travels and even after running the fridge all night with the car engine not running the charge of the battery remained in the high 90's percentage wise.. The fridge also draws very minimum current.
So for my purposes the dual battery system was working 100% satisfactorily.

cheers
