Nissan Extended Warranty

Hi, after some tips on purchasing the Nissan official extended warranty, specifically the extradrive 36 month version for my T31 which turns 3 in a couple of months. I appreciate some posts exist on the merits of having the warranty or not but really after the following.

Any idea how much it is? Asked the Nissan dealer at my last service and they said they didn't know anything about it!!!

Is the warranty purchased via the dealer or direct from Nissan themselves?

If the former, have any forum members found a difference in price for the warranty by shopping around between dealers or is the price fixed by Nissan?

Anyone got any recommendations as to dealers offering a good deal on the warranty/discounts for forum members/group buys, etc?

Thanks.

Hi Larry,

You can find all information in ~/media/Files/Brochures/Owners/Genuine%20Nissan%20Extended%20Warranty%20Booklet%20%20PDS%[sign in to see URL]]THIS Nissan Brochure about the Extended Warranty.

Any Nissan dealer would be able to hand you the extended warranty form and submit it on your behalf to Nissan Australia, but you can do yourself by contacting Nissan Australia direct.

The approx. cost for an additional 3 years is around $1,100 from memory.

Before you fork out this huge sum of money, please read ]THIS about your rights as a consumer.

Re: Nissan Extended Warranty

Thanks for that information. Have any forum members had any experience on out of warranty claims under consumer law and how long they took, was any upfront payment required which then had to be reclaimed, etc?

Re: Nissan Extended Warranty

As a rule of thumb, extended warranties do not improve the standard warranty under Australian law as the exceptions signed for in the extended warranties are greater than the rights with which you may have started.

Some companies are better than others but the baseliners are known for NEVER paying.

Also the warranty is onsold. As I understand it, some extended warranty may not be part of Nissan, someone else bought the possible liability at a substantial discount and they exist to make a profit.

I'd say a few words about the Corporations which advocate those warranties but I'm not inclined to face their joyfully litigious process launched against anyone who criticises them.

Saying that, let me say this, my Dealer gave a Dealer warranty at no cost when I bought the car.

Never had to use it, so no loss to them.

There also was an offer of a further (external) warranty for a price, which I gracefully declined. along with their insurance, upholstery proofing, stick-on Nudge Bar, towbar, in house tinting, finance and exterior paint protection.

I must have driven the salesman nuts.

Search "Extended Warranties Australia" and make up your own mind.

Re: Nissan Extended Warranty

Similar [sign in to see URL] I purchased my exy in 2010 I was asked if I wished to purchase an extended warranty and I also declined.
However, the dealer advised that if I had all log book services performed by them (i.e the dealer I purchased the car from) then I was provided with an extra 3 years extended mechanical warranty after the 3 years manufacturer warranty.

The 6 years of dealer servicing ends at the next service in September 2016.

So far I have had no issues to test that extended warranty so after the September service its "goodbye" Nissan dealer servicing and I will perform the simpler services myself or have it serviced by a mechanic that my daughter has used for over 8 years at very reasonable costs compared to what Nissan charges. No $[sign in to see URL] per hour labour charge that the Nissan dealer applies for even the most basic service.

So take the advice of DogTrail and do your search etc.

cheers

Re: Nissan Extended Warranty

All good advice. Thanks. I think you have managed to steer me away from the extended warranty.
