T32 X-Trail Recall - Back Door Stay Nissan T32 X-Trail
PRA number: 2016/15354
Date published: 3rd May 2016
Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty Ltd is conducting a Recall Campaign on certain Nissan T32 X-Trail vehicles built between January 2014 & January 2016 and sold in Australia to rectify the Back Door Stay.
The Recall Campaign reference is R1605.
Target: 28 162
VIN Range JN1***T32A0000005 to JN1***T32A0503959
Not all VIN's in the above range are affected.
Vehicles with power assisted opening tailgates are NOT affected.
What are the defects?
The paint coating applied during the supplier's manufacturing process of the Back Door Gas Stay does not comply with the design requirement for anti-corrosion. In extremely rare circumstances, the outer tube of the Gas Stay may corrode and crack resulting in the loss of the pressurised gas inside the Gas Stay.
What are the hazards?
If the defect occurs, the Gas Stay would be unable to support the opening of the Back Door posing a potential injury hazard.

What should consumers do?
A letter will be sent to affected owners when parts are available, which is likely to occur in Fourth Quarter 2016.
Re: T32 X-Trail Recall - Back Door Stay Had no idea this issue was found so long ago. I only just got notified by Nissan yesterday - that's nearly 18 months later, and my car has been back to the dealership for servicing probably 4 times in that period (yes - I do a lot of miles...) I hope they are not so tardy on recalls for more serious problems.
