Petrol Leaking from Fuel tank - 2008 T31 Hi all.
I recently bought a second hand 2008 T31 in January. The consumption was very high at an average of 15l/100km. I discovered that fuel is dripping down the tank mainly on the passenger side. See links to photos.
Questions Has this happened to anyone? Could it be the fuel sender leaking and not the tank? Has anyone had a fuel tank replaced and at what cost?
Nissan quoted $145 just to have a look at it. I checked with Nissan Australian and it was recalled for a fuel sender problem in 2009 which was completed.
Re: Petrol Leaking from Fuel tank - 2008 T31 Hi,
Try lifting up and tilting forward the rear seat. There is a panel on the floor that you can remove that will give you access to the top of the tank. From there you will be able to see where its leaking from. There are panels on both sides of the floor as there are two sections to the fuel tank. From memory, you can twist the white clips with pliers or a screwdriver 90 degrees while lifting the panel at the same time. Hope this helps.

Re: Petrol Leaking from Fuel tank - 2008 T31 Thanks Eric.
I actually had it repaired on Wednesday to replace the seals and the petrol cap which was blocked. The smell and leak has gone and the fuel consumption is now down to 11.1L/100km after a 300km trip on the weekend to Bowral from Sydney. The total cost of the repair was $302.
I was hoping that the fuel consumption would be a bit lower but am not sure if I'm being unrealistic as a new X-trail user. This is still a lot cheaper than my old Mitsubishi Challenger.I have aslo stopped using E10 fuel as recommended my my mechanic.
