T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat
Ahoy peoples,
Just wondering if this is normal, or if there is something wrong with my stereo head unit?
Whenever my car is parked in the sun, always with a sun shade in the windscreen and the windows cracked a few cm, the LCD blanks out like this until I can only see the icons on the very left most edge. Sometimes it's even worse than this, and it takes a long time in aircon to finally become readable again.

Re: T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat
You should be able to test it out by blowing a hair dryer onto it on a low heat setting and see if it does the same thing, or blowing cool air onto it to see if it clears up quicker.

Re: T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat
Well I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap replacement and finally snagged one on ebay. It arrived today, swapped them over, prayed that the PIN that came with the replacement stereo worked, and it did!
Nice bright LCD again.
I noticed though when taking out the old stereo, it was damn hot! It hadn't been on at all, just from the car sitting in the sun with a sun shade in the windscreen. Hoping the heat doesn't kill this one too. Can anyone think of any way to protect it from the heat at all? apart from parking in shade, which is not really possible at the moment.

Re:
Just throw a towel or rag over it if you know that it will be parked in the sun for an extended period of time.

Re: T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat
Over the face of the stereo?
I always ensure that's not in direct sun, it just seems to be that the whole dash heats up remarkably even with the sunshade up.
I usually have a sunshade in the windscreen, and one hanging on each side blocking the sun from the driver/passenger and rear windows. The only windows that don't get a shade in them are the cargo area ones.
Might just have to invest in a carport I guess.

Re:
Yeah I reckon a carport is a good idea or just plug in a cooling fan and let run while the car is parked (from a nearby power point)

Re: T31 S5 stereo LCD going black in heat
Hi Brett,
Yep it's stock. The model is Daewoo AGC-0071RF or AGC-0071RF-B. Not sure what the difference is between the -B model and normal. My original one was -B, new one is not, but works fine.
The replacement one I got is actually out of a Navara; this stereo came standard in several Nissan models around 2012.
It would physically fit but I don't know if all the connections would be the same across years. I'd imagine they would be though. I have one with a bung LCD that's only viewable at night going cheap :P
If you keep an eye on ebay and bumtree you'll spot one at a good price. Got mine for $30.
Just be sure it comes with the PIN code. I saw a couple before this one without codes and when I asked the seller they came up with every excuse, even saying this stereo doesn't need one! Some dodgy ones around.
