Re: Engine gasket

Okay then i will have them take a look at the gasket.

Wat causes the high pressure in the top radiator hose?

Re: Engine gasket

Like I said in my first post it is the combustion pressure from the pistons leaking through a hole in the gasket into the cooling system channels of the engine block.

Re:

How much time does it take to replace the gasket in a garage?

The dealer says 5 Working days because they have to send the head for skimming.

What do they mean by skimming and is that really nessicary for the replacement of the gasket?

Re: Engine gasket

It is always best to have the head skimmed. This makes sure it is flat and not warped which would cause a gap between it and the gasket making the original problem continue.
It takes a special machine to skim the head so most mechanics would need to send the head away to be done.

Re: Engine gasket

It will be a few hours because the timing chain for the camshaft needs to be put back on and reset when the head is put back on and this can be tricky.

Re:

Before I really proceed with this repair. I would like to here from you experienced guys if this gasket is indeed the most plausible thing that is wrong

Am I, are they not overlooking another problem causing the overheating and difficult starting of a hot engine?

Re: Engine gasket

What else do YOU think it is ?
Take it to another mechanic and ask them.
We do not have your Xtrail infront of us so we can only give you our best guess as to what the problem is based on our previous experiences and the symptoms you describe to us.

Re:

Mate, you should NOT be proceeding with any repair based on just what you read on the forum, so like Kev said, we can only offer long distance overseas advise based on what YOU tell us is wrong with your car but at the end, you still need to follow the advice of the local mechanic who has the car in front of him to correctly diagnose the fault.

The last thing I want to see is you shelling lots of money based on our advice alone and then finding another problem!

Based on the posts you have made to date regarding your xtrail, there seems to be a number of problems you need to address, so it's impossible for us to pin point just one of them and tell you with absolute certainty that if you solve it, it will solve all others.
