Extra Drive/Extra time warranty
Many of you who know me, know that I rack up serious KMs. My 3y/100k warranty expired just after 2 years as I hit 100k.
Anyway, I bought Nissan's Extra Drive/Time for 5y/100k (the price difference between 4y and 5y was negligible) - when the car had 90,000kms on it. I hadn't had any problems, but I had some spare money in my salary sacrifice account, and as I was leaving the job I had to spend it all (or pay a lot of tax when it was returned to me).
At 106,000km, I had a sensor in the EGR valve fail in regional NSW, which sent the car into limp mode. Luckily, Nissan's extended warranty provided me with a Kluger from Hertz in Goulburn for 5 days, after which I switched to a dealer courtesy car. I could've even claimed accommodation, but I had to get back to work the next day. All covered under warranty - although had to wait 3 weeks for the car.
At 110,000km service, my mechanic told me my #2 injector is coming up with errors (I had told him the car was running rough and 'metallic' noises were heard). Limped it over to the local dealership and told them the story. They took it in under warranty.
Essentially:
- the Nissan scan tool showed A LOT of errors
- the dropped the sump, and found metal everywhere
- got Nissan HQ involved - something was VERY wrong, and couldn't be easily fixed
- after more diagnosis, Nissan HQ approved a long motor replacement.
... and the whole thing is being replaced with a fresh motor from Japan (should arrive in Aus on 14/8/2015). And I'll have a brand new engine We've decided to keep it, and hopefully get another 150,000kms out of it!
