Any idea if it is only the Irish, or European T31 M9rs? Any VIN numbers available to see if my T31 diesel is part of the ones needed the computer mod, since I drive it hard? Please any updates? They're being assembled in 3-4 different factories (depending on geographical location and target market), so not all recalls affect every manufacturing line.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Wed, 23 Mar 2016 21:09:59 +0000 Re: New recall about bearings T31 Dieselhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090896,from=rss#post2090896https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090896,from=rss#post2090896hey all, is there a list of affected VINs or engine numbers available for this? I noted that it wasn't in the recall sticky so not sure if there's just not enough info about to add it in or otherwise. Picked up our T31 diesel today, so will be getting it checked for all applicable recalls to date for this model/VIN. Anyone ever hear of such a thing???? No. They are possibly reducing the previously allowed maximum pressure on the bearings of that motor by detuning it. From previous comments, that might improve the economy for those who don't stress the motor.(?) The 'very specific driving conditions' are probably, 'drive it at highway speed with a load and it will die'. Edit: Hard work in sand or mud will probably have the same effect.  At a guess, it seems like possible heat death of the bearings. Heat happens as a natural byproduct of an engine when asked to work hard - but it should be properly dealt within the original design.nondisclosed_email@example.com (DogTrail)Sun, 02 Aug 2015 22:13:30 +0000 Re: New recall about bearings T31 Dieselhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2088398,from=rss#post2088398https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2088398,from=rss#post2088398Got a reply from Nissan Ireland today when I emailed them about this. The reply was as follows....... ********************************************************** Hi Mr Harrison and thanks for this email regarding your Nissan X-Trail. The manufacturers published this campaign to prevent engine bearing wear under very specific driving conditions. This engine ECU software update will reprogram lubrication control to prevent premature engine bearing wear when operating under prolonged high load and high engine speed conditions only. Bearings will remain unaffected under normal driving conditions. Please contact your local Nissan dealer to get this campaign completed, during this visit they will evaluate your engine performance to identify any possible bearing concerns, an intrusive investigation will not be necessary at this time. We hope to have informed you sufficiently, if not please provide a phone contact number to discuss further. Kind regards Nissan Ireland Customer Service. **************************************** Reprogram lubrication control?????? Anyone ever hear of such a thing???? No, did not specify vin or engine number. Text was exactly as I transcribed. But I was at the dealer today......simply asked me the year and if it was a M9R. I said 2008 and yes. His reply was 'Yes, it HAS to be done'. When I asked what it involved he said it was a software update, takes about 1 hour. It will prevent overevving of the engine. The boost controller was found to be faulty and overnboosted the turbo, leading to bearing wear (it was completely chewed through the motor). It states.... "Our ongoing quality monitoring has identified a concern related to premature engine bearing wear for the 2.0 litre diesel engine used on some X-Trail (T31). I am writing to let you know that your vehicle falls within the range of potentially affected vehicles. Nissan has identified that in a small number of cases when operating under a high load, high engine speed and severe driving conditions, the engine bearings may wear. IT IS NECESSARY THAT YOU CONTACT A NISSAN AUTHORISED REPAIRER AND ARRANGE FOR INSPECTION AND RECTIFICATION OF YOUR VEHICLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This repair will of course be carried out free of charge for you. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you, but the safety of you, our customer, is of paramount importance to Nissan Ireland. We hope you understand the necessity of this action." I'll be calling to the dealership some day this week so I will post an update after that. George.
