Pulled the sensor, checked it everything visually looked good. Left it unplugged just to run the experiment and see what would happen. Took it for a drive and it is shifting perfectly. It has been 5 days and no relapse. Interesting that the car doesnt need the VSS to function properly though I think the cruise control doesnt work.
Also, after I turn on the car I have to hit slightly higher RPM to make the very first 1-2 shift. After that it works perfect.

Wow, i have this exact same problem and OBII is spitting out the same code! 1574 and the auto box is doing the exact same. Sticking in first gear occasionally but stopping and turning off the vehicle seems to "reset" it.

I am wondering if a bodgey Vehicle speed sensor can cause the gearbox to go into "limp mode??"

Did anything ever come from this? (hoping you are still in this forum)
