TJ's T31 Diesel

Hi All,

Thought id start a write up on our T31 2.0 Diesel X-trail.

She is a 2013 model, obviously Tempest Blue in Color. We had to wait a little while to take delivery of her, as aparrently Tempest Blue in a Diesel Manual was hard to get hold of.

We ordered her with Nudge Bar and Tow Bar.

Since then we have taken her on a trip with our 4wd club, deciding to leave the perfectly suitable, modified GQ and GU Patrols we have in our Garage at home for the day ! Suffice to say, she went everywhere the big GU Patrols and 100 Series Cruisers with 35" tyres went !

So after taking a perfectly good, new car, with 1,500kms on the clock off road, there was a total damage bill [sign in to see URL], zip nada ! Phew

Unfortunately the Rav 4 didn't fare so well, with engine check lights, a fault in the 4x4 system, and dash lights blinking on and off every where.

Since ordered a genuine driving light wiring harness from Nissan, handy having a brother that works in spare parts at your local Nissan Dealer. (Come in handy with the Patrol mind you also)

Fitted the wiring kit this weekend, next weekend the Lightforce 170 Striker HID spotties that i bought.

There will be a 20" LED Light Bar down the track.

Next on the list is to permanently mount the UHF ariel on the roof, and install the Icom UHF into the Dash Pod, with a bit of trikcery to hide it when not in use.

Currently chasing a genuine 17" Alloy for a full size spare, have a few ideas sussed out, including the possibility of a 17" Alloy from an FG XR6 Ute.

Will eventually get hold of a set of 16" Steelies, with some larger All Terrain tyres for a bit of fun off road. Most Likely a BFG, or a Maxxis, staying well clear of Coopers, but thats another long story.

TJM will be supplying me some underbody protection, and a lift kit of about 1.5" is on the cards when funds permit.

Aldi have supplied some Canvas Seat covers that are air bag compliant, along with a 150lpm Air Compressor, that inflates the 35" tyres on my Patrol in no time flat, so should be perfect for the X-trail.

A long time down the track i will be looking at a custom made stainless snorkel.

Re: TJ's T31 Diesel

Well what a huge weekend. Spent Saturday at the 4wd show in Melbourne, didn't buy anything for the X-Trail, or either of the Patrols mind you, but had an absolute ball !!

Made a weekend of it, stayed up there Saturday night. Wandered home this morning.

Decided I better pull my finger out and get onto some of the jobs that seem to be piling up, so on went the Lightforce Striker 170 HID's.

Connected via the genuine Nissan Spot Light wiring loom, mounted the ballasts on the radiator supports on either side, and the loom to the lights goes through where the stock Nissan wiring would have gone. The wiring from the Nissan loom that would have gone to the lights at the front is wired into the ballasts.

Aimed them up as best I could on a quiet road, came up a treat. Will do some tinkering with the aiming of them when I can find a nice flat wall to do it on.

Have seen these lights in action on a Patrol, so I knew what I was in for, they are bright !! Holy Jebus bright.

Fit nicely on the Factory Nudge Bar, secured with anti theft nuts, and don't hang out past the front of the bar by much at all, a few mm, and youd need to be measuring pretty close.

Very Happy.

Re:

Looking good so far, mate. Not to be a downer, but I would seriously recommend avoiding the alloy bash plate from tjm. Not because it's from tjm, but purely the fact that alloy is just too soft to be successful and viable as a bash plate(I have one and it looks like a dinosaur mauled it and then used it as a baseball bat on some rather unforgiving surfaces). I'm certainly not one to promote the xtrail forum's overpriced(purely my personal opinion) steel bash plate set, but there is effectively no comparison out there, or even competition for that matter either. If you're handy on the tools I'd recommend fabricating your own. But whatever the cost, steel bash plates will easily pay for themselves in just one or two good whacks. Look forward to seeing your progress shots!

Thanks Ian,

I think your right RE the Alloy Bash Plates, was thinking of making my own before i saw the TJM ones, and i liked the look of them.

Might go the custom option i think..

Re: TJ's T31 Diesel

Hi all,

Realised ive been a bit slack on this thread.

Not long home from our Easter weekend away, first time ive towed any sort of reasonable distance with the X-trail.

Towing our caravan, [sign in to see URL] as per weighbridge week before, returned [sign in to see URL], plenty of power, and towed reasonably well. Very happy with the towing performance.

Have also installed an Icom IC-400 Pro, and 3dbi antenna, thanks to those others on the forum for the inspiration on the location for mounting it.

Re:

Only a small update, but fitted an Engine Data Scan from Berrima Diesel that was thrown in with a recover kit I bought from 4WD Supa Centre.

So far it looks like a good bit of kit, reads a lot of stuff from the ecu, able to read and clear codes.
