Interior lights LED upgrade
I recently replaced my 3 x roof lights and 2 x step lights with LEDs.
The process was pain-free and I'm generally happy with the results.
While driving at night, I noticed a very soft glow from the map-light.
It was barely noticable and certainly not enough to disturb driving.
Later, I checked it out properly and found the following:
Apart from the "glow", everything worked fine.
All of the LEDS had the same glow, regardless of headlights or other conditions.
It could be stopped on individual lights by switching from DOOR to OFF.
No switch effected any OTHER light.
The step lights have no switch, so they glow whenever the doors are closed.
With all the light ON, the circuit was pulling 0.9A.
With the door freshly closed, it went down to 0.7A. (no timer on the luggage light)
When the timer kicks in, all the lights glow and it's still pulling 0.25A.
I haven't yet tested it with the incandescent bulbs back in.
This doesn't sound like much, but the car is parked-up for long periods, when I have the company car.
It's obvious (in MY head) that there's an earth leak in the wiring, timer or door switches.
Without wanting to pull it all down, I was hoping someone else might have a clue.
Cheers
Bruce

Re: Interior lights LED upgrade
All digital circuits and transistor outputs have a leakage component which is enough to slightly illuminate some LED light modules.
The way to fix this is to have a resistor soldered across the LED module to shunt the current and the LED module will not be illuminated when the circuit is off.
Otherwise you will need one of the lamps in the circuit to still use a standard incandescent bulb to give the extra resistance.

Re:
The faint glow is normal for LED lights without resistors. They will go out in time. Nothing to worry about.

Re: Interior lights LED upgrade
I just measured all mine in order to look for replacements and they appear to be 31mm festoon bulbs. That's for the map, ceiling, boot, and tailgate lights. Mine doesn't have door lights so I dunno about those.
I haven't decided on what to replace them with yet though, so any recommendations would be good
