There will be differences as I run petrol and you run diesel, but over the last approximately 500 km the onboard computer tells me that I've averaged 8.3 L/100 Km.
Over its lifetime, the onboard computer has always over-estimated my fuel useage by up to 5% which is surprisingly similar to its inbuilt speed over-estimation.
On refuelling to the absolute brim of the fuel tank each time (third cutoff at the fuel hose after allowing everything to gurgle away down the fill pipe) , my real usage was 8.0 L/100km.
The onboard computer is apparently calculating usage from its fuel reading at the tank vs the km covered.
I suggest that the fuel reading by the tank gauge has a margin of error.
For me the error is less than 5%. Not enough for me to worry about.
To test yours, reset everything to zero & run a tankfull through.
Then compare the cars fuel consumption reading to the actual calculated fuel consumption after refuelling.
That will give your degree of error.

I don't think I've ever driven a car where the fuel consumption meter is 100% accurate. It's meant to provide a guide as to your fuel consumption, but I doubt that any car manufacturer intended for it to be completely accurate. Such a device, to be accurate, would need to be frequently re-calibrated.
I imagine that the type of diesel being used would also affect the accuracy.
My TL Diesel averages between 7.4-7.6 on the gauge. And based on some rough manual calculations based on refills at the station, it's fairly close.

Hi mate. I call a tank this. I have travelled 800 ks and im getting low but the gauge shows some left, I fill up and take note of how much it took to fill then gauge how much would have been left. I wouldnt run that low all the time but have done so twice so as to get a good idea of how many ks im getting. Simple! Im for sure getting what I stated, 900ks. I live in the bush and after only ten or so gear changes im off and cruising, now and then a bit of shopping in town but most of my driving is open road to get to somewhere many ks away, a bit here and there in the bush when I go fishing or detecting on my days off . So yeah, 900ks to a full tank no problems. I drive it the way it likes to be driven, keep the revs around the 2000 mark or over when cruising, gear change around 2500 rpm now and then a bit higher 3000, give it a squirt now and then for good measure, a push or two uphill. It hates to be driven like a slug, but I don't cane it either, try to keep it in the happy zone all the time and im getting very impressive economy as far as Im concerned. I guess though those who drive a bit through towns and cities all the time, stop starting don't get anywhere near what I do and that I would expect. To me this is a great car for those who live in the bush like me and do plenty of open road driving, but given the way it likes to be driven and how it just laps up the open road driving and drinks so little when doing so its not one that I would personally recommend for city livers, stop starters, low speeds, who cannot because of their environment drive it as it likes.
