Re: So in summary the nissan connect just seems a gimmick, and pretty pointless
There are only two apps at the moment, google and facebook. The app has to link to the car so that you can then in theory use the screen on the car (I still cant get it to work). No idea why you would ever want to pay to be able to use a touch screen while driving to use facebook or google. Pull over and use the damn phone safely imo.
Using the voice control through the phone displays the info on the phone, not the car, so I assume the app allows the results to show up on the screen of the car instead?
I am aware that both Android and iphones have had this functionality for a long time (used before on headsets etc), but hey, its the first time Ive had a car that links to my phone, Im allowed to get excited!
Re: T32 - Nissan Connect It's a total waste of space. Only works with a handful of phones so the chances are, in 3 years when the 'free' period ends it won't do anything.
Of the 3 apps supposedly available, Facebook, Google and Pandora, I can only get Facebook to appear.
Note: Nissan connect is not required for streaming music or for phone calls. For those you can just pair your phone and use as normal, individual mileage may vary.... Nissan Connect just applies to the "Apps" button.
For android users, a long press of the call button will bring up "Special Function" which in turn can talk to google now. It will only let you do this if the vehicle is not moving but you can they use "Ok Google" to control your phone in other useful ways and pipe it all through the car audio.
