Cooper AT/3's on T31

I've just put a set of Cooper 215/70x16 AT/3's on my T31 today. Found some genuine 16" wheels (factory was 17"s) at a very reasonable price. Now I'll have to find some sand or mud and see how they perform.

Re: Cooper AT/3's on T31

They've been on for a week and a bit now. No real increase in tyre noise (a bit but more than acceptable). Fuel consumption hasn't changed. Speedo is only 3 km/h out at 100km/h (still on the safe side). Used the X-Trail on wet farm tracks this week and never felt slightly like slipping. Able to climb a fairly steep, wet, grass slope with no slip. Very happy with the Coopers.

Re:

I have the AT/3s on mine also. At first the noise didn't bother me too much; nine months later I'm wondering (as much as I love them) if I'll buy the same again. I noticed that my fuel economy meter runs between 10 and 11 with the AT#s, whereas it used to run between 8 and 9 with the OEM tyres. I probably should run a log book to see how the real usage compares to the usage calculated by the dash meter.

The two things, although similar, are not the same.

Why not start logging your refills on Jalalski's Spritmonitor site?

It does all the math for you.

Then you will know where you stand.

Crunching hypothetical numbers, at 2L /100 km difference in fuel consumption, at the supposed average of 20k per year would be costing you an extra 400 litres/year.

Assume that is 91 RON fuel at average $1.50/L. ($1.40-1.60)

On those figures, that would be around $600/ year down the gurgler.

Might be time for you to to find out?
