Re:
They won't send you a response because there is simply no ADR ruling on this as yet. I have seen 4WDs plastered with LED light bars on the bullbar and the roof basket and as long as they use them off-road nobody will or can say anything.

Re:
I've seen truckies and 4wds use them on the highway but not sure if they ever got caught though. I'm guessing a few hundred dollars fine is better than hitting a roo in the dead of the night and in the middle of nowhere. I was thinking of getting one myself.

Can't comment on WA laws but you won't get fined here in the east of the country. QLD released a 'hot fix' which was to basically put a piece of plastic 1" wide over the centre of the bar to give the appearance of two lights. Most people just used a small strip of gaff tape. If you want to make 100% sure you won't get fined just do that.

Re:
QLD requires an even number of auxillary lights hence the "gaffer tape fix"
NSW regards each LED in a bar as an individual light as it has it's own reflector so any bar with more than 6 LEDs is illegal (technically) as you can only have a maximum of 6 forward facing auxiliary lights.
Basically the laws have not kept up with technology
Other points to note Driving lamps do not have to comply with ADR 46/….

Aside from all the legal issues
Have a look at the web, there has been much research about led lighting vs othertypes
Leds look good, and give heaps of light
But if its penetrationyou are looking for, there is better

I agree. That's why I don't have an led bar. They are brilliant off-road and in slow winding roads because of the spread they provide but terrible for high speed highway driving. They just don't have the range.

Re: Led light bar
Hi all,
I bought a cheap 20" LED bar off eBay to put on the top of my ECB bar which compliments my HIDs perfectly driving at night.
I would be interested to know whether a brand like great white as a single source led bar like 16" would be better than my bar. For the price I paid I'm not complaining. They have their own switch separate to the HIDs I use too.
It terms of legality ... I live in very rural Qld and drive often at night through areas of roos and they definitely help spot them quicker with their flood lighting. A lot of 4WDs up here have them and some are even the entire width of the vehicle! Up here no one to my knowledge has been booked for them and that news would spread quickly if it was the case. I think if you're silly enough to have them in suburbia and use them then you're dead at risk of being fined.
I have no regrets with mine and I am very pleased with my set up. If anything, I'd get booked for having them mounted above my nudge bar. Again no one up here I believe has been booked for this either cuz that's the main place everyone puts them.
At the end of the day, the owner takes the risk of anything they mod to their vehicle. I wouldn't be impressed if I was not pre-warned from the police force themselves to say otherwise. But I accept the consequences at the end of the day.
That's just my say,
Ben
