Slight noise just before clutch finally released in reverse?

Hello all. I have noticed, especially when reversing out of my driveway which is uphill, that just before the clutch is finally released there is an audible, you can feel it too, a click or very slight knock noise before final release. Is this typical of these and not a thing to worry about. This happens in reverse mostly, has happened a couple of times going forward from standing start.
Always in reverse going out my driveway. Is it because its a new clutch and it beds in in time?

Difficult to know exactly what conditions you are talking about but doesn't sound normal.
Do you mean as you lift the clutch pedal on take off there is a noise at the pick up point?
When you say you can feel it, where can you feel it? Through the whole car or just the clutch pedal?

Re:

You can hear it through the car, not super loud, slight but is audible. Not at the pickup point, just before it, say the clutch is released about 80%. So I am starting to reverse uphill out of the drive, you slowly start to reverse, move back about 15 feet, tight to get out so you cant go fast, and just before final release, 80% maybe 90% released, your about to let it go and there is a slight knock. Not as you let it go but before that point. Im doing it smoothly too, no sudden clutch jerk or release. Ill be spewing if its a problem, only had this 5 days. Thanks for the quick reply too.

Re: Slight noise just before clutch finally released in reverse?

So you are riding the clutch for about 15 feet?
These things have a dual mass flywheel (DMF). Basically 2 plates held together by a bunch of springs. They are designed to reduce vibrations. It could be just the flywheel snapping back into position. If so just keep an eye on it. If the noise gets worse or the driving feels different get back to Nissan ASAP.
In the meantime, try not to ride the clutch. You will wear it out way before it's time.

Just FYI: My flywheel failed at 28,000km and the clutch was still near new. Nissan wouldn't cover the replacement. The aftermarket clutch/flywheel I had installed had about 45,000km on it when I traded the car and it was still perfect. In my opinion the DMFs installed from the factory are too weak for the car, in particular if you tow.

Re:

Thanks heaps mate. That makes sense with the dual mass and the springs. A lot of sense. Its a tight exit from the garage and the drive and letting it go quickly like you would normally is real hard to do. I never let it go that slowly anytime else, just then. Ill have to get used to doing so though in this situation. Ill keep an eye on it but something tells me your explanation is right. I can rest easy now.
Greatly appreciated mate.

Hi Todd. Tried doing things different. But im still getting it. Even when I went shopping and exiting the car park in forward, had to slow down a bit for another car and when I released, that slight clunk was there. Must be an issue with it. Iv driven manuals before and never had this happen. Ill admit they were not dual fly wheel but this shouldn't happen with a new car. Ill let the dealer know and see what happens.

Yeah like I said keep an eye on it. Sounds like it's getting worse/more consistent so definitely worth having a look at. Hopefully it's a simple fix although I wouldn't be surprised if your flywheel has separated (where the sprig between the 2 plates of the DMF fail).

Re:

Yeah mate, im worried now. Took it to the dealer today and whilst there they said they tightened the drive shaft bolts or whatever in case there was movement there. I couldn't replicate it there with them but when I got home and things had cooled down after lunch when I backed out it did it again. Seems like when its run a bit and heats up, I travelled 80ks to the dealer, it appears ok. So its apparently worse when cold or hasn't travelled far. Going a bit sour now, on the way home I notice the drivers auto window close switch doesn't work on the auto close, only manual. For crying out loud, its only done 600k's. Contacted them and they are going to go over it at the 1000k service. I didn't mention either that the fog lights didn't work, when checked they found out that they had not been hooked up at the factory. Hmm....

Re:

The window auto up bug happened because they disconnected the battery, simply put down the window and then hold the switch up as the window goes up for I think it is 20 seconds and it will fix itself.

Here is the thread.

Don't be afraid to use the search function at the top of the page, just about everything has already been covered.

Re:

Thanks Tony. Did window thing and its right now, took a couple of goes but all good now.
Been trying and its for sure when the clutch and or fly wheel has not warmed up. Every time cold or you have not travelled far, say down to the shops five minutes away, car sits for ten to fifteen minutes you come out, go to drive off and clunk. One go I was about to let the clutch go and a car pulled out and I reckon just near that moment when it goes clunk I pushed the clutch back in and heard a zzz instead of the clunk. Slight movement of the flywheel against the clutch?
