Replacing Head Unit on 2013 Nissan X Trail T31 Series V Including wiring diagrams

Hi All,

Just thought i'd share my notes on replacing the head unit on my 2013 Nissan X Trail T31 Series V

- Disassembly
  - Remove the Face Cover (4 clips, 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom
  - Unclip the connector on the back of the face cover
  - Remove the 4 Screws holding mounting bracket for the stock radio.
  - Pull the radio and mounting bracket out and unclip the 4 connections.

- Identification
  - The largest of the connectors is your main wiring loom for power/speakers/steering controls
    - This is the pin out from looking at the back of the radio unit

|19|10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18|20|
-----------------------------------------

| num | colour | Signal Name |
| 2 | white | Front LH Speaker + |
| 3 | Pink | Front LH Speaker - |
| 4 | Light Green | Rear LH Speaker + |
| 5 | Red | Rear LH Speaker - |
| 6 | Violet | Steering SW A |
| 7 | Sky Blue | Accesories |
| 11 | Green | Front RH Speaker + |
| 12 | Red | Front RH Speaker - |
| 13 | Brown | Rear RH Speaker + |
| 14 | Yellow | Rear RH Speaker - |
| 15 | Green | Steering SW GND |
| 16 | Orange/Tan? | Steering SW B |
| 17 | Blue?Black? | Immobiliser? |
| 18 | Violet | Speed(Pulse)? |
| 19 | Brown | Battery |

Notes: Mine did not have the Immobiliser wired up but found reference to this on another diagram in my travels

  - Connector next to the wiring loom (the 8 pin one that looks like a usb type b connection) is the console usb and aux 3.5mm headphone jack
    - The pin out for this is as follows (i have not confirmed the usb part of this so please do check before wiring it up, this is looking at the back of the radio unit

    __
----------
| 1 || 4 |
| 2 || 5 |
| 3 || 6 |

| num | Signal Name |
| 1 | Headphone Tip |
| 2 | Headphone Ring |
| 3 | Headphone Shoulder |
| 4 | USB 1? |
| 5 | USB 2? |
| 6 | USB 3? |
| 7 | USB GND |

  - The Connector with 2 pins is your aerial connection, the thicker wire is the coaxial aerial point, the thinner wire is the power supply to the amplifier, you can buy an adapter for this to a normal aerial connection (but you still need to supply the power to it (your replacement radio should have a power connection for the aerial motor or amplifier

  - The last connector (12 pin white connector) with only 3 pins connected is your microphone in your roof line in the interior, it seems to be a stereo mic? Black is ground but as i couldnt get to the other end of the microphone to signal test which was which. As my mic input is mono I just joined red and green to the tip and black to ground (shoulder) and it works fine

The only thing I havent gotten working on my unit is the steering controls, I know the pin out from the main wiring loom is correct as I can see the resistance change by doing an ohm test from the steering ground to the steering a wire and hitting the various buttons.
Not sure why my head unit (Kenwood ddx4033bt) doesnt pick it up...

Re: Wiring Diagram

Hi Psynode,
very late reply I know, but maybe useful for other members.
my series V came with an after market Android Head unit already fitted. The steering wheel control buttons where not working and the prev owner said they couldn't get them operating where it was installed.

So I went searching and although I found diagrams of the same Nissan wiring harness the pins where not exactly the same. I found this and it matches my 2013 T31 Series V 4x4 to a tee.

Got the buttons working after finding this.

Dave

How do you un-clip the clips?

I need to remove my radio to get the serial-number in order to recover the radio code from Nissan.

You don't even need the plastic tools described in other threads.
Park in a safe place with the hand brake firmly on. Move the gear shifter back to Drive.
With both hands put you fingers under the lower grey surround edge just below the air flow dials.
With a bit of pull, release the clips, they'll sound like you've just broken a lot of plastic. Don't panic! Don't panic! You haven't really. The first time you remove a clip anywhere it makes a horrid noise as many have noted on many threads but it gets easier.

Work your fingers around the grey surround and release (pull back) the clips at the top.
Follow other instructions about disconnecting the hazard switch.

The serial number is right there on top of the unit, no need to remove anything more. Just take a pic and send it to a Nissan dealer.

And here is the really good news! Drum role please! emoticon
Your standard factory head unit (not the LCD type) supplied after 2011, series IV don't come with a security code at all. . emoticon

Yes I went through this torture to discover all this. emoticon
I guess no drugo scum bothers stealing them any more, so no need for a code.

Re: Wiring Diagram

Hi Dave,

I hope you don't mind me asking this question.

I have installed a new Pioneer aftermarket stereo and the only thing I can not make work is the steering controls.

I own a SWI-RC from PAC and using their instructions I still have no success.

The loom that you managed to find looks like it would work, where would I find such a piece.

after searching for about 10 hours I have come up with nothing.

Thanks,
Tom
