Who needs 4 wheel drive

You can stick your 4WD where it hurts & gimme this 1920 ‘Oilfield’ Dodge!

....’dont make ‘em like this no more.

It was rear wheel drive & elec. start. This is not a promo advert either. Never had them

in those days ! Just a commute to work

showing how this ‘REAL’ car handles the worst possible conditions you could throw at it. Excellent footage literally dug-up from the archives !

Re: Who needs 4 wheel drive

Skinny tyres cut through the slush to the hard ground underneath for traction and large diameter wheels help stop body drag in thick bogs.

It would be interesting to see if this also worked on modern day 4WDs to improve their capability.

Though I doubt you could roll any modern 4WD over on its roof back to its wheels, wind up the windows and keep going as though nothing happened.

That's really cool Pete. Imagine how tough the diffs and chassis on that thing were.

Re:

The weight of those things back then would be no more than all of 4 tyres combined of the current cars, no wonder it just floats on anything and skids through it.

The smoke it produced back then would have probably killed all wildlife in the route to work that driver took each day LOL emoticon
