Re:

Have you tried ringing a dealer and asking for a referral to a local repairer?

'The Touchup Guys' franchise does this sort of work too. Yellow Pages may also list plastic welders too.

Cheers,
Mark

Re:

try a panel beater or SMART repair type place, they will probably just use a bumper repair patch, plastic repair compound in the crack and then repaint the area. A panel beater will probably end up removing and replacing the whole bumper, as they do nowadays (something about lifetime warranties etc means new bumper is often the only way)

Re: Modified Rear Bumper

Mate pay somebody that knows what they are doing to weld it if thats the way you want to go, i have done alot of plastic welding in the past (over ten years ago) and believe me its not a matter of buying a sub $ 100 off ebay and going for it ! Just like metal welding there is a fine balance between not hot enough, too hot, not enough penetration, too much penetration plus incompatible filler materials and not to mention that you need to spend alot more than $100 for a decent hot air gun.

The rear bumper is all one piece. Its paint that makes look like 2 pieces.

Such a cheaply made, nasty, and poorly designed item.

Not really, I think you took the Exy beyond its designed capability. Its actually good that it split where it did, rather than ripping the whole ar$e end off leaving you unroad worthy. Not sure if it was designed like this?

My bumper is also split in the same place after a rather steep departure angle on the dunes.

Im working on a fix. Once I come up with one Ill let you know emoticon

Cheers

If you mean going down a little mud ridge that wasnt even knee height (probably about half way between my foot and my knee, im 6ft tall) being beyond its designed capability, i think you would find alot of people having quite a laugh at that.

I cant understand why on earth nissan didnt finish it off properly, having the badge 4x4 means the car should be able to do little bit of off roading, and what i done was absolutely nothing to some photos / videos of what people have taken theirs through on this forum. All Nissan had to do was tuck the bumper upwards instead of leaving it like that, when you look at the shape of the bumper its pretty each to see that it would catch on anything it touches.

OK I agree emoticon It is a pretty bad design leaving it like a scoop at the back, but the under body protection sorts that out.

Maybe worth the spend if your wanting to do some light 4WD'ing.

Re: Re:

I think everyone agrees that the standard rear bumper catch-all scoop feature is a bad design.

Nissan do not seem to be inclined to fix it on successive models as it probably only has detrimental effect on the sub-economic portion of buyers who actually use the car off-road.

As under-body protection is not provided by the Manufacturer, it is necessary to fit your own protection if you don't wish to see the standard bumper used as a sand/mud scoop, then have to back-up to retrieve the pieces whenever you venture off-road.

Edit: The same applies to the plastic bit which masquerades as sump protection at the front.

I do understand that it is actually designed to work as an air-foil for underbody air flow & reduce splash to the motor - but if it was made of steel rather than plastic, it could actually be useful, rather than being the first thing to retrieve after taking your new car off-road emoticon
