Re: O2 Sensor removal

Just changed the O2 sensor. Gee its a mission to get the spanner in there to undo it. Took me ages to figer out the right angle to do so. Just did the ECU reset and cleaned the MAF sensor too so lets hope the fuel economy gets better.

Re: O2 Sensor removal

i changed my O2 sensor just over a year ago. got a bosch one from repco. bosch makes the stock nissan xtrail ones apparently. symptom was poor fuel mileage suddenly. it's usually the one closest to the engine that goes first.

you can't tell if the existing one is stuffed. i think these things give off a voltage when they don't detect oxygen (requesting more fuel from the ecu) and 0V when they do detect oxygen (less fuel for the ecu). so they constantly flip between 0V and +V in normal operation.

when you install it, follow the instructions with the wiring. it was pretty straight forward. You should have some anti-seize on the threads too. when you first start it up, the antiseize will smoke, so don't worry too much when you see smoke rising up! emoticon

over a year later, and mine is still working fine.

Re: O2 Sensor removal

Hi Fellow Xy Fans,

Could anyone please enlighten me about what the O2 (letter "o" or zero ?) sensor is for ?
I presume it's nothing to do with the chemical expression for oxygen. Would be grateful.

Cheers,
BRIAN

Re: O2 Sensor removal

Not being that mechanical minded I googled an answer.

Response:
The O2 sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold to monitor how much unburned oxygen is in the exhaust as the exhaust exits the engine. Monitoring oxygen levels in the exhaust is a way of gauging the fuel mixture. It tells the computer if the fuel mixture is burning rich (less oxygen) or lean (more oxygen).

cheers
