Panic alarm going off by itself.

I apologise if this question has been posted before. I have 2 X trails, a new one and the older one I kept for a work horse. Both have given me no trouble at all. The old one is a 2004 petrol. Just recently the panic alarm, Its not a security alarm, "horns blaring" for about 7 or 8 seconds. It hust goes off for no reason at all. The keys hanging in their place far away from the vehicle, no one touching them and pressing the red panic button on the keys. Yesterday it went off about 6 times in three hours. I ended up dissconnecting the battery. Anyone here had this experience, and if so, whats the solution?

Thanks for any replies,

Cheers, Ironbark.

Hi Jal. Thanks for your reply. No mate, I have not! Do you think that might fix it?? The doors lock and unlock every time, using the remote, even from some distance?? I assumed the battery should be ok! I suppose I could remove the remote battery, It is the 2004 original battery, and use the key manually and see how it goes? if no more trouble, buy a new battery.

Re:

Yeah give it a go, the other thing that could trigger the panic alarm is one of the following:

* Bad car batteryy
* One of the door latches going faulty and opening the door after you press the lock button on the remote. If this happens, the door latch would need to be replaced.

It's a good idea to put some WD40 on all 4 door latches to see if that solves the problem.

Pay close attention on the dash next time you drive the car and see if it gives you a signal of an open door....can't remember if the T30 had this feature or not.

Same symptoms here, Ironbark.

Been having trouble locking doors remotely during the week, and suddenly yesterday, for no apparent reason, the "alarm" sounded. I was sitting inside house, car keys on a hook in kitchen.....

So have just come back from shopping with pack of new CR1620 batteries and am about to try new one out!

Re: Panic alarm going off by itself.

Thanks again guys, very much apreciated. I have removed the remote battery and so far, no problems. I will clean and check all door latches with WD, and check out the main battery. So far Jal, no door open signals showing up.

I have been a little slack since buying the new X Trail T.I, The old girl is out in the weather 24 / 7 now, unless under the awning if she's not in anyones way, or the grand kids are borrowing her?? They love the Stockton bight sand dunes, which is hard on her, and the new one in the garage when not in use.

Thanks again. I will keep you updated if any further trouble arrises, out of interest and problem solving for all.

Re:

Do you have a Mr Minute place near you.
If so, go in there tell them what's going on,
they will test the battery, & clean & check all the contacts
while you are there.

Hopefully that will help solve your problem.

Following up:

New battery in key, and all seems to be working OK... no erroneous alarms, remote lock/unlock working reliably. emoticon
