The spares are as important as the 4 main tyres and should be monitored as well. Sure you don't expect them to deflate when not being used but you could have a faulty bead or a faulty valve with a slow leak.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 01 Dec 2015 22:14:43 +0000 Re: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089858,from=rss#post2089858https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089858,from=rss#post2089858I have the external valve ones so i can just swap them over as I see fit. Have done over 3000km of off road (including water crossings) with no issues. I only have 4 sensors.nondisclosed_email@example.com (maxgmoore)Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:23:43 +0000 Re: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089856,from=rss#post2089856https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089856,from=rss#post2089856So did you get 6 then so that you won't be caught out by a flat spare ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 01 Dec 2015 14:27:48 +0000 Re: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089853,from=rss#post2089853https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089853,from=rss#post2089853what if you have 2 spares like me nondisclosed_email@example.com (maxgmoore)Tue, 01 Dec 2015 12:23:59 +0000 Re: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089848,from=rss#post2089848https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089848,from=rss#post2089848Usually the TPMS internal sets come as 5 so one gets installed in the spare also.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 01 Dec 2015 07:06:30 +0000 Re: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089845,from=rss#post2089845https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089845,from=rss#post2089845only issue with the internal ones is when you get a flat you can't change it to your spare nondisclosed_email@example.com (maxgmoore)Tue, 01 Dec 2015 01:16:29 +0000 Re: Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089840,from=rss#post2089840https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2089840,from=rss#post2089840quote:jlmuir wrote: quote:nick111 wrote: I installed TPMS recently from ppa car audio, http://www.ppacaraudio.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&path=119&product_id=488 I added a Tyre Pressure monitor System (TPMS) with my X-Trail that involves a digital readout on the dashboard with a sensor on each tyre, i will now know what tyre pressure is on each tyre and I will know if i get tyre pressure drop and I will get a audible alarm if the wheel gets to hot. how good is that i will enjoy long trips more now with the added features to my X-Trail. This looks interesting. Does this TPMS have the ability to change the pressure reading to Kpa? The main reason I want it is for off road driving. I do a lot of it up this way and am planning to do the gib River Road. I don't have the room to carry more than one spare and have spoken to people who have done these remote trips before and they say the reason for tpms is to detect an immediate drop in pressure so that you can stop and be able to repair the puncture. I have a pretty good repair kit and it is difficult to feel a flat on soft sand roads. Even with the trip i did this weekend to cape leveque i sore so many delaminated tyres on that road and it wasn't a bad road. stay tuned for a gadget write up in the futurenondisclosed_email@example.com (maxgmoore)Sun, 23 Jun 2013 20:18:20 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075244,from=rss#post2075244https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075244,from=rss#post2075244I agree with Tony, these things are good to have on roads like the Autobahn in Germany where tyre pressure at super high speed can be something of importance Having said that Max and if you can find the el-sheapo version to experiment with, by all means give it a go and let us know if it's really worth it. I have considered this set-up in the past for my Merc, but never had a chance to do it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jalalski)Sun, 23 Jun 2013 14:58:10 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075243,from=rss#post2075243https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075243,from=rss#post2075243No I don't, I don't really think it's something worth spending the money on.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Sun, 23 Jun 2013 14:28:31 +0000 Re: Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075238,from=rss#post2075238https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075238,from=rss#post2075238After a recent trip to Cape Leveque i was chatting with some guys that had fully kitted out 4wds and they had the external ones and they didnt mention any balancing issues. have you got a tpms on yours tony?nondisclosed_email@example.com (maxgmoore)Sun, 23 Jun 2013 11:39:51 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075233,from=rss#post2075233https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075233,from=rss#post2075233These things have been around for years and the quality varies. At an average price of $400 -$500 you can get a decent set. The problem with the ones that mount to the valves is getting the rim balanced correctly. The type that stick to the middle of the inside of the rim are better.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cooch t31)Sat, 22 Jun 2013 18:47:56 +0000 Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075226,from=rss#post2075226https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075226,from=rss#post2075226Hi Guys, I used the search engine for Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems and only found one entry of a guy fitting them but he didn't give it a review. I do a lot of off road driving and am always worried about getting a flat as when driving in sand its difficult to notice if you have a flat. I would like to know if anyone has installed an external wireless TPMS. If so what brand and how much? I have looked on ebay and seen some el cheapos but am hesitant to purchase in case they don't work well. I would like one that attaches to the valves so i don't have to pay to get them installed and knowing tyre temps would be good too. Any thought would be most helpful.
