Paint Spots on Wheels

Here's a weird thing I noticed over the weekend. What looks like paint overflow drips on the rims. The colour is the same as the car.

After checking every T31 I have seen since then, I have found similar little drips of bodywork paint on the rims, up to about 5mm in diameter. Is this something I can be pedantic about and claim under warranty?

Re:

There is certainly no red paint spots on mine and I would be more concerned about your car having been through some damage repair rather than the wheels showing paint spots!

That's most definitely NOT the case.

The fact I have seen this on brand new models in car yards leads me to believe it's not uncommon. It may just be certain colours. I've seen it on Tempest Blue and Silver so far.

Re:

This the first I heard if it anyway and I pay close attention to everything when I wash my car.

The only paint spot in the wheels are the ones marking the location if the air valve.

Re:

I was wrong. It's not the colour of the car. It's a pale blue. Same on Silver and Tempest Blue Ti model. Scrapes off pretty easily but the fact it's exactly the same across 5 different cars of different ages/series means it's something strange in the production somewhere. Only on Ti's that I've seen so far and only on the 18 inch wheels. It's odd.

Well that"s different then and it is quite normal as it is the factory markings for the air valve positioning which is used by the tyre places when they put new tyres. That's normal and I have them too. Don't remove these markings!

Re:

They weren't for tyre valves (no anywhere near them). There weren't under the clear coat on the rim - not meant to be there.

It's quite strange to be honest.

Regardless, my rims are now all clean and back to OEM finish. Now they're just waiting for the Ceramic Pro treatment when the rest of the car gets done.

Re: Paint Spots on Wheels

They meant to be there mate!

HERE is an explanation for what these dots mean and how the tyre places use them to line-up the tyres correctly when fitting them. I knew it had something to do with the tyre positioning on the rim.

They are on the "heavy" portion of the rim. The tyres have a paint dot on them also to indicate the light part of the tyre. The person installing the tyre should line-up the blue dot on the rim with marked spot on the tyre.

Having that one dot on each wheel is the OEM finish.

Re: Paint Spots on Wheels

Thanks for the info Jalal. As annoying as it is I figured it was there for a reason so left it alone. Mine has little blue dots too. My guess was that it had something to do with matching sets of wheels........ wrong......

No worries Michael.
