Centre Bearing

Hi All,

Search showed up nothing. Has anyone replaced their centre bearing? Nissan doesn't sell the centre bearing seperate and want $1730 for the bearing and shaft :S

If you did change it, where did you source the parts, and was it a hard job, or did the shaft slide in/out easy?

Cheers
Chris

Re: Centre Bearing

Best way is to source a replacement rear drive shaft from a wrecker like Jamie did in this thread.

Re:

thanks Kev.

If anyone happens to be under their car in the near future, could you please see if you;

1) Move the prop shaft (drive shaft?) near the centre bearing - does how much movement is there? I get around 3cm. I am curious if this is normal.

2) move the rear of the prop shaft (drive shaft?) does the front bushes of the rear diff allow a lot of movement...again I get about 3cm.

Cheers
Chris

Re: Centre Bearing

When you say "move" which way do you mean ... inline with the tailshaft or perpendicular to it ?

Re:

Either way that is a lot of movement full stop, providing the tail shaft is still bolted on.
Shouldn't move that much if any thing at all.

Re:

I mean up and down, not left to right.

Apparently some cars have loose centre bearings and diff... trying to work out if xtrail is one of them. Last time I did either, they were rock solid

Re: Centre Bearing

The only play I had on mine was about 1-2mm up/down on the rear of the transfer case, but I know that has a stuffed seal and bearings...which are being replaced now. Before that, nothing.

Re:

thanks Kev. might start with the diff bushes then (cheaper than centre bearing as you have to but the whole shaft :s)
