Re:

If it's the wrong loom don't stress.
You could always cut the connector off and hard wire it yourself.

Re: Towbar wiring for T31

thanks for your help guys. the plug is definitely wrong, but the guy at the wreckers doesn't want to admit it. had people confirming the part# is for a Navara and there is even a manufacture date on the label: 02/03. unfortunately he is too far away to go through the hassle and he probably knows that. I'll do one myself like you suggested cooch_t31. just disappointed about the customer service - if you could even call it that.

Re:

went to plug my mate's trailer in last night. no lights showing on the back. Spent an hour in the freezing cold (2 degrees) looking at the fuses - nothing wrong. Spent some time this morning, double checking a few fuses in the engine bay - as I've previously replaced #45. Nothing. The whole car was working, so I thought it was the trailer. Tried another trailer, and nothing emoticon

Went to the auto elect this morning, who tested the trailer and it was fine. Plugged into the 7 pin adaptor on the car, and then things got interesting. All the lights were working... too well. When the left of right blinker was on - all the lights would light up: both blinkers and brake light flashing at different times. Anyway, car is now at auto elect trying to find whats going on. On sunday, I borrowed a bunnings trailer, and it worked fine. Wonder if its something to do with the fact that the trailer last night had LED lights - but that would've blown a fuse somewhere because of the higher current.

I'm thinking (and hoping) its a dodgy earth somewhere, which is causing havoc with the trailer power ECU.

Re: Towbar wiring for T31

Both my trailers have LED lights so I very much doubt it is anything to do with that. Sounds like you might have a couple of bare wires somewhere there that are rubbing together. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Re:

All done. Previous mod who did some work on my trailer plug (ripped it off going up Mt Coree) used scotch locks and the earth had come out - not happy, as they were recommended as doing good jobs!

All the cables were resoldered instead of scotch locked and happy days - time to tow a 1.2t TARE trailer to Sydney tonight.

Good result. The road to Sydney is so flat you will barely notice it's there most of the time emoticon

Re: Towbar wiring for T31

Dear Exers,
I am getting a genuine Nissan towbar for my new T31 (LED tail lights) and the genuine Nissan wiring loom. In talking to potential installers some say I need a relay and direct battery power because the LED car wiring isn't up to the current draw of a conventionally lamped trailer. The genuine loom does not have such a relay. Some installers say just plug it in as per instructions.
Do any of you have first hand experience regarding LED tail lights, genuine Nissan wiring loom, and this business of a relay being needed?
Cheers,
Phil

Re:

If a relay was needed it would be included in the wiring loom if it is a genuine Nissan kit for your model Xy.

As Tony said, the genuine Nissan wiring kit for a T31 xtrail model with LED tail lights does indeed come with a regulator.

Re: Towbar wiring for T31

Thank you guys, this is where it gets confusing though. The Nissan dealer who I am buying the bar and loom off tells me they install "half a dozen a month" and they use this loom. No relay, no problems. A 4x4 shop that I approached to do the install reckon I need the relay. Another accessory place that does installs for a western Sydney Nissan dealer says no relay needed. What the ??????.
Cheers,
Phil
