replaced o2 sensors

sorry if this has been asked before. the engine fault light came on 3 months ago and was told it was the top o2 sensor so replaced it. i go around to getting the codes reset to find the other o2 sensor was now faulty. again i replaced. had the exy serviced today and they reset the codes. drove home no light came on. started car again the light came on again. got a second person to connect computer to reset codes and was told the sensors are ok and it was wiring further down the car. anyone else had this problem . t30 2007 robin

Re:

Hi Robin,

You need to have the ECU re-set after replacing any sensor. Have a look in the DIY Guide section for the quick ECU re-set procedure.

Re: replaced o2 sensors

hi jalalski i have tried to reset the ecu on numerous times and it did not work. as i have had the computer reset the codes 3 times in 2 days , both service men said the sensors were working fine.

Re:

Check the spark plugs, as there obviously a fault in the combustion cycle somewhere that is casuing the error if you are sure that both sensors are working and their wiring is not damaged.

Re:

If it comes up again get your mechanic to tell you the fault code number and post it up, will make it easier for us to give some suggestions. There is a couple of different O2 sensor based fault codes if i recall correctly

Re: replaced o2 sensors

i just looked at the invoice from the service centre and they have written down engine warning light on , showing code p0031 h025 one of the oxygen sensors failed. the p0031 is air fuel ratio a/f sensor 1 heater. the p0031 code is for a t31. has both service centre got it wrong read t31 and not t30.

Re:

They just copied this code from their database for an xtrail but they didn't realise that the codes are different between the T30 and T31. The one they gave is indeed for a T31.

You should ask them to give you the actual print out from your ECU with the correct fault codes.

Re: replaced o2 sensors

got back to service guy and he told me that the t30 and t31 computer would pick up the fault and give it a code as a o2 sensor. both sensors and now new spark plugs and reset the ecu, the light is still on. i was told that it could be a number of things that could be wrong even a leaking exhaust pipe. i think i have to live with the light on .

Re:

They also need to check the condition of the catalytic converter by running a camera and seeing if the cat converter hasn't been damaged or insn't flaking. It's not just a matter of ignoring the ECU error code and a warning light, they are usually there for a reason and you cenrtainly want to find the problems before it gets much bigger.
