Part is heat shield around fuel tank and part is those plastic 'guards'. If you saw what he drove up on the weekend you would understand the underside re-modelling emoticon

What's visible is one of the plastic stone guards for the fuel tank. I obliterated one side of it's clip mounts more than 6 months ago and have been too lazy to rip off the one still attached. I made a mess of my heatshields this weekend that's for sure :/ but they're not visible and I've cut enough of it off that the noise has lessened so that'll do for now.

Feel free to post up the videos of mine in here Todd emoticon I'm hopeless with youtube and links etc.

Respectfully disagree. There is a few more things we discussed emoticon

Re:

Haha, Todd; lower gearing is feasible but expensive and would require extra mods to remain practical as a daily driver. Bigger tyres might still happen but also requires extra work and probably has more cons than worthwhile advantages. Extractors+ for less than $2000 are looking like a long shot. A rear bar is only really extra protection, not added capability. A front winch mount is achievable and may still happen. What else have I forgotten? It's hard to keep track when I'm the only one still doing these mods, mate (mr. quitter) emoticon

Haha sorry mate but I had to change. My camper trailer demanded it.

Lower 1st gear is still my number 1 pick for capability. Strut and spring spacers would be number 2.

Got sick of the tinny rattling ruining the beautiful sound of my new exhaust, so I finally bit the bullet and removed all the damaged and destroyed shields under the car (whilst on lunch today!) Bloody nightmare but it's done now at least.

So my pitiful clearance is back to it's original self again.

Re:

Finally ran out of patience and hacked into the rear bumper. Initially I wasn't happy with it, but after removing the reverse lights i was much happier with the level appearance and neat lines of the renovated bumper. Considering i was now without reverse lights, I figured I should upgrade those while I was at it emoticon

So here's a shot of the new and improved reverse lights.

Ok so here's a better photo. Probably the first(and only) rear quarter chop ever to be done on an xtrail, haha.
