Re: Re:
From the previous, it seems that this car is not friendly to you.
I've had unfriendly cars and the best bet is to get rid of them before they damage you more.
It may well be that it will be friendly to someone else, but so far, it seems to have a bad attitude.
Oddly, anthropomorphism (although completely without scientific basis) helps one to understand how to deal with complicated machines.
My good cars only have flat tyres in the garage - no matter how long ago the tyre was pierced. They indicate that they are suffering from a problem just as I draw into a Service Station and re-start on the last 'chug' of the battery if I am too far from home.
Bad cars, seem to plan how to cause maximum expense and inconvenience.
Mercifully, I've never had a malicious car but some were definitely temperamental.
One used to catch fire in the engine bay whenever it was peeved - a Renault Floride.
However she was not malicious, merely a bit of a Prima Donna.
Beat out the fire, tighten up the carburetor screws and continue driving while hoping that the leaking carbie sitting directly above the leaking muffler did not decide to get intimate with every back-fire...Interesting times with my first Renault designed machinery
To cross-thread slightly, I've perceived most of my cars as female, except the Nissan 280ZX which was a gentleman.
A bonnet that long left no alternative.
Never let me down on the road but would let me know that things needed to be done while trying to start it in the garage.
Good attitude.

Re: New diesel?
Just as bit of other info about fuel pumps. A friend went on a bush trip last spring driving his 4.2 ltr patrol tray top in company with a Navara and i think a Hilux. Each carried spare diesel. At some point in the trip he re fuelled the patrol at a small outback town. The other vehicles had ample spare so didn't fuel at the same place. Within a couple of hours the patrol drove "like a pig" max speed 60 km/hr. He tried several things, replacing the filters (had spares) checking the pump, air intake, turbo etc. nothing made any difference. Finally he decided to head for home - missus was cranky, he was cranky, the car was sick and cranky. A fresh batch of fuel improved things and eventually it came good.
When he described the symptoms to his diesel mechanic the reply was "OFF Fuel -- Lucky you weren't driving a modern common rail - would have probably blown it up".
I have made a few decisions about where i fuel my Xtrail, normally BP, mostly busy truck stops, definately no bio and usually before i get below a quarter of a tank. My X trail has done 85,000 trouble free Km's so far. The most i've had happen is the dpf light twice but only because it hadn't been on a long trip for 5 or 6 weeks. A 30 km drive fixes it.
So do we blame the pump or the fuel? Hard to prove the fuel without having a sample tho.
Cheers
Ian
