Re: Has anyone been to Cameron's Corner, advice please.

John when are you thinking about doing this trip? I was planning on leaving mid august. The other 3 couples I was going with have all got pregnant in the last 2 months (it's an epidemic) so now I will probably be solo. Would definitely like to meet up with another X-Trailer at Cameron Corner and do the Strezlecki and possibly Birdsville Tracks with them.

Hi Todd,
Going on info I collected so far, I was thinking late April early May as this in previous times is the driest and coolest. Although I hadn't listed it as event (was just trying to get info) the thought was there as a possible meet up in one of the major towns before heading up the Silver City Hwy, yes the red dirt road. Still contemplating leaving the van at Tibooburra and going out to the corner for the day and returning as the park there is quite resonable. Still a few maybe's between now and then.

John

No worries John. Looks like I will be later than you. I think April is the start of the dry season. I am going at the end of the dry season.
Not sure how far you plan on going but if you want to venture into SA check out this site. I was checking back in April and a lot of the roads were closed around that time. It was a particularly wet wet season this year though.

I'd be interested in a trip out west. Shame tara wouldn't be able to come, as her new employment contract doesn't allow her to take annual leave until Jan 2014

Wow Michael that is a huge time with no leave. I'm thinking about 4 weeks from mid august next year. The route I've got planned is near enough to 10,000km and will take in Cameron Corner, Strezlecki and Birdsville Tracks, Birdsville, Longreach, Devils Marbles, Alice Springs, Kings Canyon, Uluru, Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta, Lake Eyre, Flinders Ranges, Broken Hill and Silverton.

Re:

Damn... we'd love to come along... and with the notice, I could've got my fleet company to add the extra fuel to my salary sacrifice... hell with a trip that long I'd be in the 40,000km+ FBT bracket (last year it'll be available).

But because Tara's contract finished at CSIRO (thankgod she finished her PhD), she's starting at a new department next year from mid-Jan... Dept of Agriculture Forestries and Fisheries... I had a similar contract when I started with ATO... no leave, apart from an odd day or two here on flex - its fairly common with grad programs because there's heaps of formal training which if you don't complete, you don't finish the program (and you get made redundant).

Send me an email or PM with your rough plan... i may tag along for 1.5-2 weeks. I have 7 weeks in leave, so me taking a month here or there is no biggie.

Re:

Looks interesting. The only concern is the distance between Birdsville and Longreach.

I'm talking with Rob, who you met, and we may tag along until Lake Eyre, but then we'll go towards the Oodnadata and up to Uluru.

I'll give you a buzz when I'm in Sydney near xmas... i'll drop some of the duck eggs off at your place if you still want.

Yeah it's gonna be a long day from birdsville to Longreach but that's part of the fun. No worries we can have a chat after xmas. the trip is still a long way away.
I'm sure Eliza would appreciate some duck eggs emoticon

Well Tara's given me in principle permission. Mainly because she got to go to morocco and I had to work.

Will you be taking a camper trailer for the trip?
