Just got a call from Nissan "customer service" about my out of date maps.
It appears it's my fault the maps in my car are out of date, because I test drove the car, the 2011 maps were "current spec" and if I want anything else I have to pay. If I had told the dealer at the time I wanted updated maps they "may" have done something. When I told this tool that I bought 2013 and expected 2013 maps he constantly reverted to the spec of the vehicle. When I told him that 2013 maps would have meant I didn't go off the M2 at a brand new exit that the 2011 maps didn't know about he just reverted to the spec. Nothing I could say would change his tune that it's OK to supply 2011 maps because "the car was up to spec and you should have known that after driving the demo".
His parting comment before hanging up on me was "your concerns have been noted".

Admin Edit: Language. Thanks

I'll bet you were speaking to the very same enormously arrogant and rude young male operator at Nissan that I spoke to.

Was his name Tristan?

Rather than pay $350 for an outdated map upgrade from Nissan, buy a top of the line NAVMAN MY600LMT for $159!

It even comes with FREE MAP UPDATES EVERY MONTH!!

Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

I have just purchased a Second Hand 2012 T31 Ti Series 5 with AVM (Still in Warranty) and am faced with the same issues everyone else on this Forum has encountered. In addition to all the points of concern mentioned here, I also make this point, which is important here in Australia, particularly Campers/Travellers. Map Co Ordinates cannot be entered into this Unit directly, like other Aftermarket GPS Units. In the book it says you can create an Excel .csv file of the co ordinates and copy to a USB stick, then load them from the AUS USB point. I am quite familiar with Excel and Computer methods, and I can tell you now, this does not work, nor would you want to go to trouble every time you went on a trip. When travelling, we do not use Motels or Caravan Parks, favouring Free Camp Sites instead. The Free Campsites have Map Co Ordinates listed, exactly for this purpose.
I was hoping, by now, Jan 2015, someone would have found another AVM/GPS Head that can be used as a direct replacement for the Nissan Connect, and which uses Navman, Garmin, Tom Tom or other Maps, other than WhereIs.

Re:

I feel your pain. Nissan are not easy to deal with in relation to complaints.

If the stereo is original, go to your local Nissan dealer and advise them that the vehicle stereo doesn't operate as state in the owners manual. If they throw their hands up in the air, insist that the matter is escalated to Nissan Australia.

MAKE SURE YOU GET A COPY OF THE R/O and retain it for proof of the issue being reported whilst the vehicle is under warranty.

Keep us updated

Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

Hi forum, long time away from this site since we got our T31 Series V back in 2013. The car has been great, no issues at all EXCEPT for the Connect system maps. Is there a map update available for this SD card based system?
And does anyone have any idea why the wife's phonebook won't download into the system? Phone syncs up fine but can't get the contacts. This has only happened since I did a factory reset to restore the voice prompt which just disappeared for no apparent reason.....Cheers, PhilD

Re:

Hi All,

I just had to throw in my two cents worth. I can't believe the issues around this you all seem to have had. I'm not sure if I'm lucky or if my local Nissan dealer is exceptional, but when I bought my T31 ST L Series 5 at the end of 2013, the salesman, who was awesome throughout the whole process, gave me a 3 year free map update prepaid card for the Eclipse AVN827GA that came with it. Plus Nissan posted me a second card, for a total of six years of map updates! So I can't complain. Will happily give a shout out to Lakeside Nissan though as from the sound of it, they are a dealer doing it right. emoticon

The firmware of the actual unit though is another story. I'd love to get that updated but there appears to be no information out there on that, admittedly I haven't tried calling Nissan, but I figured that was a not their concern kind of thing.

Paul
