Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

Just got a call from Nissan "customer service" about my out of date maps.
It appears it's my fault the maps in my car are out of date, because I test drove the car, the 2011 maps were "current spec" and if I want anything else I have to pay. If I had told the dealer at the time I wanted updated maps they "may" have done something. When I told this tool that I bought 2013 and expected 2013 maps he constantly reverted to the spec of the vehicle. When I told him that 2013 maps would have meant I didn't go off the M2 at a brand new exit that the 2011 maps didn't know about he just reverted to the spec. Nothing I could say would change his tune that it's OK to supply 2011 maps because "the car was up to spec and you should have known that after driving the demo".
His parting comment before hanging up on me was "your concerns have been noted".

Admin Edit: Language. Thanks

Re:

I have done exactly that when I picked-up my Ti in 2011 and I told them I will not sign on the delivery document unless they agreed to update the maps at the first service. Not only did they update the maps but they managed to stuff the Eclipse system, so they gave me a brand new one TWICE after that. But that was a one-off deal and the maps got outdated quite quickly.

You really need to ask yourself, is it worth the upgrade when compared to other GPS systems on the market where you can be free from all this crap and would never have to buy a single map in the future?

To me, the answer was simple, I will keep using the maps I have until I get to the day they will be completely useless and if I have the car then, I will just take the Eclipse system and get rid of it in favout of a more advanced technology that offer not only cost-free maps but also DAB (Digital Radio), as the current radio reception is even more pathetic than the outdated maps.

Phil,

It sounds like you got the same 'tool' I was talking to.

I will be happy to look at something better but there is a decent list of "needs to".
Needs to happily work with the around view monitor, reversing camera, steering wheel controls and offer no charge (or affordable) map upgrades. GPS would be nice but not a deal breaker. Anything else? Oh yes, not allowed to break the bank either.
Any thoughts on a likely candidate?

Yep, wait for the T32 GPS/AVM system, as it seems to have the goods, so might be a future mod in the making emoticon

Re:

G'day all,
I took the advise of a forum member here about ensuring that I receive the latest map update prior to taking delivery of my new 2013 runout model TL. I took delivery last Friday, not even 2 days ago. I asked the salesperson did the car come with the latest map update, yes was his reply, it has 2013 maps. I did not think that it would be necessary to actually check the mapping data version for currency, prior to taking delivery.

Then again, looking at the Nissan Pre-Delivery Checklist supplied with the car under the sub-heading - Perform the following checks and actions:

"Satelite navigation system set up, reversing camera operation and alignment (if necessary)"
the box was not ticked, it scored NA which I assume to be Not Applicable - what the ....!

I have just discovered that according to the map data information displayed in the unit it has-

MapVersion: sd2-
CONNECT_2012_AUSNZL v3

Now you have to admit that 2012 maps installed on a brand new car purchased in mid 2014 is pretty good!?!?

I will be dropping into the stealer, I mean dealer, on Tuesday morning to discuss their oversight.

Re:

They will probably planning to tell you about the available "upgrade option" at the first service and charge you $350 bucks for the upgrade.

Re: T31 Series 5 Nissan Connect System (including Navigation)

great info here! can anyone confirm what the details are for the latest and greatest satnav maps please?

If i go to collect my exy and it shows the following for the map data I will be a bit annoyed since i had the map update as part of my deal

MapVersion: sd2-
CONNECT_2012_AUSNZL v3

cheers!

p.s I called up a Nissan dealer to inquire about the cost of a map update to a 2013 Ti - he said approximately $450 . I asked why it was so expensive, to which he told me they had to open the satnav device and replace a chip. I asked him three times if he was sure it wasn't just a software update using a USB/DVD ... but he said nope, they needed to open up the device and replace some microchips. emoticon

What a load of crap!

You should have told him that you will be quoting his statement online on the Nissan Facebook page for them to read the incompetence of their dealers!

What a bloody joke Nissan is turning into.

Absolute bollocks! The map data in the Series V is on an SD card, RHS of the unit.
