Hi Artymr2,

We also have a leak from our oil cooler which is square. Curious to know if you found any information yet, our mechanic is willing to give at ago to replace o rings if we can get the right ones. Do not want to pay out over $600 plus installation if we can avoid it.

Re: fixing an oil cooler leak

Hi, you might have some luck if you speak with renhel in Dandenong, they make seals and have an extensive range on stock, hope this helps.

Re:

Ok we gave renhel a call they only do o rings & gasket for T30.

We found out part number for square oil cooler in T31 is 21300-JA06A

This is also the same oil cooler found in altimas from 07-12, we did a bit of googling found several videos of repairing them by changing an o ring and gasket.

The set containing both parts is available in US but not Australia. The only one they have heard of in Aus is the gasket which is available here but they've not heard of the o ring.

Nissan told us the oil cooler is a sealed unit, however ours and all others seen online have bolts......

We can get gasket here no probs and o ring (aftermarket) can be brought in a pack of 5 for $20USD from china.

We'd like to use genuine however with shipping costs is about $70 or buy the entire cooler (aftermarket) from china for $130 inc shipping.

Part numbers needed for anyone else with T31 and QR25 engine are :

21304-JA00A (Gasket) and 21304-JA06A (O ring)

Hope this helps anyone else having this problem.

Re:

The correct part number or the seal inside the square cooler is 21304-JA06A. Got is locally, some dealers wont sell this part. $40 (33 trade). the seal had to come from victoria and arrived the next day (Parth). The dealer that wouldnt sell the seal said "but they discounted the cooler to $570.....

This seal is a rubber o-ring section but its a jellybean shape with the oring to the side.

The seal against the block is 21304-JA00A and is a gasket.

Oddly the dealer descriptions seem to interchange gasket and o ring incorrectly.

I will try changing it by leaving the head of the cooler including cooler pipes connected and just removing the body.

Will update once done.

Cheers

Re:

Changed both the seals today. Quite an easy job really, easily done in one hour.

Jacked up car, took right front wheel off, removed small plastic shield covering oil filter. This exposes the cooler and its easily accessible from the side. I drained the oil as I did an oil change at the same time. Unplugged the wire to the oil pressure switch.

Loosened off 3 out of the 4 bolts (couldnt get the far front/left one with cooler attached to block). bolts holding the top head of the cooler to the body. They were barely tight, probably because the old gasket flattened off and removed the tension. I used one of those ratcheting ring spanners that has hinged end, worked great. Otherwise I think you will need a stubby 10mm spanner.

I then unbolted the cooler body from the block, 12mm bolts, 3 short one long.

Cooler separated easily from block. I then swiveled it around to loosed the 4th bolt on the head, and removed all 4 bolts (coolant pipes still attached). and the cooler body came out.

Doing it this way saves you opening the cooling circuit.

I then cleaned the mating surfaces, and assembled it back in reverse order.

Will put some photos up too.

Cheers

I seem to be having a leak from the cooler also. But my cooler looks square shaped, not round like the photos here Am i missing something in translation? would mine have the same o rings or is it a different setup?

Pic below.

Car is 2007 T31 2.5 petrol.

Thanks

Mines square as well I have managed to find some internal "o" rings if you need one,I had the clutch replaced and had the mechanic replace the cooler while the gearbox was out. Nissan dont sell o ring so was $500 for new unit.
